On the 7th of July 1881, Tuscan writer Carlo Collodi introduced a little wooden puppet that would go on to enthrall generations of children around the world.
"The Adventures of Pinocchio: story of a puppet" was released in serial form as weekly installment for the Children’s Newspaper.
From there, the unstoppable success of a Geppetto’s lying puppet has resulted in 240 international editions of the famous Italian story.
Celebrations are being held in Florence to honor the wooden puppet who dreamed of becoming a real boy.
Artists from all over the world are invited to participate in birthday celebration by joining a contest to draw "Pinocchio: 130 years since birth." Winning entries will be displayed in Turin this December. For more information, or to enter visit the contest Facebook (in Italian).
