Airport Body Scanners

I see that Italy began experimenting with its first airport body scanner today at Fiuimicino. Personally I've no problem with anyone seeing my wobbly bits if it's doesn't involve taking off shoes, belt etc. and long queues. On that subject too does anyone know why I have to go through passport control in order to fly out of Italy to Ireland? Seems faintly ridiculous. And back on topic I thought the best joke I heard about the failed Christmas Day bomb attack on a transatlantic flight to Detroit was on The Daily Show. Host Jon Stewart was musing about having a bomb in your underpants. Imagine if the suicide bomber had been successful. There would have been 50 fairly disappointed virgins whenever he arrived in Heaven! What the...?

I see that an airport scanner operator in the UK has been given a warning for harrassment after apparently ogling at a co-worker through a newly installed body scanner. I suppose it was bound to happen. Also I read up on Schengen and it does indeed impose an obliogation on particpating countries to check passports for those leaving the area too. I couldn't understand why this was being done - after all we're leaving so why do they care - but apparently it's to make sure that the passport holder hasn't overstayed their visa either in Italy or another Schengen country. You learn something new......
