518 Looking for a good Italian tutor or course in London

As a regular visitor to Italy and also being in the process of buying a place in Abruzzo, I find myself in a situation where I have a reasoanble comprehension of Italian, but have a complete mental block when I need to speak! I am sure my non English speaking Italian friends think I'm mute. This is now a big  problem for me that I need to overcome. Can anyone recommend a good tutor or evening classes in central london or in the Tower Bridge/Southwark area of London. Grazie mille!

Have you tried the Italian Cultural Institute based in SW1 - they have language classes and conversation classes - use the link below for more info.

Arianna,

Teach him to speak the dialect from around Teramo, or Roseto degli Abruzzi!

:)

This year I started an Italian course on a Tuesday night at the CITY university in Clerkenwell, this was great until the final term moved to monday night, which due my job, was impossible to get there on time. Now I feel really behind, its really horrid joining a class late and feeling like the class pumpkin.

We thought about having a private tutor over summer to catch up, just a couple of hours a week. Does anyone know of anyone or of a good web-site?

Thanks chaps, love this web-site.

The UCL Language Centre in Gower Street (near Goodge Street Tube - Northern Line) is very good. They run courses from very basic beginner to advanced. Courses are usually taught by native speakers and the classes are small. Cost is approx £200 per term. Lessons in the evening can be 5-7pm or 7-9pm.

You should contact the Italian Cultural Centre in London, they have a list of tutors. You could also contact the italian Embassy, they will have a list of Italina students that live in London, who will be more than willing to teach italian for a more reasonable price than a school. And you would get a one class, which is so much better!

I'm an Italian tutor, who can rely upon a Degree in Linguistics and a long experience in the field of teaching Italian to foreigners. I'm based in north-east London, can travel and offer fair prices.
If you need private tuition or any sort of translation, do not hesitate to contact me:

Hi! I don't know if this is any use to you but I am learning Italian using skype with a fantastic teacher called Marco. My Italian has really advanced since my lessons with him. His website is The Italian Teacher - The Italian Teacher.com
Good luck!

I just wrote and told Russ about who I use. He is fantastic!! Might be worth having a look as he gives a free first lesson, The Italian Teacher - The Italian Teacher.com

I have just joined and am loving this website too!! I can practice my Italian LOL

Try to contact the Istituto Italiano di Cultura/Dante Alighiery Society. They do have a branch in London and many activities where you can practice your Italian. It is the equivalent of the Alliance Francaise for French or the Instituto Cervantes for Spanish.

I suggest The Italian Institute -- http://www.italcultur.org.uk, http://www.gumtree.com/london/london-skills-language-swap_1583_1.html and local colleges.

Additionally The Italian Institute and Gumtree are also to be found in other cities.

Yes I saw those (and others) when I was initially looking fto learn Italian. For me, I needed something that didn't involve travelling as I work unpredictable hours so needed something that fitted around me rather than the other way around. Learning online was the perfect solution as I could do it from home. I take a lesson a week with Marco
