11158 when is a nurse not a nurse

when they have paid for their qualification at the catholic university of rome ....

ok they have the paper but not the knowledge and just recently the police arrested around 80 nurses (or not) depending on your viewpoint for working in hospitals... some even in operating theatres...

this all occurred in calabria...but the university is in rome... and they reckon they have about 160 not real nurses working in the hospitals there and i guess are trying to sort it all out...

the cost of this nursing certificate / qualification is not cheap either euro 10,000 and its not like nurse wages here are that high...but the pensions are good...

in itself a bit of a bizarre story... how on earth do they manage to get away with it... i mean its not that easy surely to hide a lack of knowledge in that environment... i remember single cases in the UK where people that had worked in hospitals as ancillary workers then started pretending to be nurses and got along quite well...but at least they knew the basics

what is really strange here... especially when you hear of things like doctors and surgeons managing to pay for degrees at bari and chieti universities ... is the fact that anyone bothers to qualify at all for sort of lesser type jobs... but that's what makes life so pleasant and interesting in a sense... to run a bar here and get set up in business say is more difficult than becoming a brain surgeon... or even a dentist... have seen some extraordinary programs about them... people managing to order restricted goods for dentists and setting up practices without a single tooth pulled before hand... it made my mouth ache just to think about it... ... and yet the cafe owner underneath will get shut down for not handing out a receipt for a coffee.....

to live here requires acceptance of certain realities which anywhere else might well be a worry .... and to me explains many of the problems that people encounter when dealing with professionals here... because if doctors, dentists and nurses can set up with no formal related education by buying their degree... what do you reckon the chances of people outside these professions which are quite critical in the sense of decisions taken .... getting their bits of paper by paying a sum of money over.... ????

General chat about Italy

What I cannot understand is how all this has happened. Any University has to get a course approved by the relevant Education authorities who are also supposed to conduct tests regularly to check on the quality of education.
As you said, the case is bizarre and difficult to understand.

Well, it seemed easy enough for these unqualified people to buy their 'counterfeit diplomas' once they knew where to get them.

But for me, the reason this happened was caused by those who actually gave them a job! Obviously NO checks/controls were made on these 'nurses', their knowledge, veracity of qualifications or honesty. These 'selectors' were either 'on the take' too, or totally incompetent. (I'd go for the first).

I believe it only came to light when a doctor reported a 'new' nurse because she couldn't give an injection and was scared of the sight of blood.
Some 'nurses' have apparently finished their working lifes at quite a high level and are receiving pensions.

Stribs

Well how about the Italian Education Minister, who went to a certain well known University where you can buy a degree.....She isn't doing too bad financially either?
or even a dentist... have seen some extraordinary programs about them... people managing to order restricted goods for dentists and setting up practices without a single tooth pulled before hand... it made my mouth ache just to think about it...
Falsi dentisti stories were doing the round yet again a week or two ago. I think the Carabinieri branch that deals with this must have issued a press release.

One fake dental practice closed down every three days so far this year, and 344 fake dentists discovered in the same period.

Mind you, if past reports on this are any guide, a proportion of these would have been dental technicians who had at least some experience of helping proper dentists before deciding they wanted to reap the full fee for themselves. Still wouldn't want them touching my teeth though.
