11166 Trips that change people's lives

Just a quick idea. How many people changed their lives after visiting Italy? Someone asked us recently, and it would be interesting to know how and why a trip affected great change.

a simple yes or no if you don't want to enlarge, but it would be great if you could share your stories.

Did a trip to Italy change your life?

General chat about Italy

I met my husband in Siena and have now been living in Italy for 12 years, so I'd say that's a pretty big life change!

I got married in Volterra- life has not been the same since!!!

I had a holiday romance in Lido Di Jesolo way back in 1974, and have been married to my special guy now for over 32 years!

Ah at last I see your connection with Italy Francesca!!! Is he Italian too???

No Sally, he is English born and bred like myself and originally from Kent. I myself was born in Islington, North London.
A true holiday romance!!

I had never even thought of going to Italy until my partner booked a short Autumn break in Florence. I fell in love with the place. (As you do.)

The next Summer was my parents' 40th wedding anniversary, so we booked a big family holiday in Tuscany (nine of us including two small children), renting a glorious historic palazzo. One day, I had a kind of epiphany when I saw the old gardener walking hand in hand with my nephew, who was a toddler. They were going to pick cherries, and were babbling away to each other, even though neither could have understood what the other was talking about.

It was a scene that said a lot to me about Italy, and was the seed of the idea that it was the place that I belonged.

You should do it, everyone deserves at least one adventure. We only came to visit my brother and ended up with an abaondoned farm, that's now our home and business!

Having moved out here, we still love everything about the place, we would like to be looking forward again to coming here !!

But once you do get here, it's even better !!!

Like Pam and David, came to stay at my brother's house and two days before returning "popped" into an estate agent and 48 hours later paid a deposit on our house. We are hoping to be over there permanently in 2009.

We had visited various parts of Italy for holidays, my husband had lived in Latina for about 4 or 5 months 20 years ago on a NATO course and always said he wanted to live in Italy but not sure where. When we stayed at Peter's house, in the mountains looking across a fabulous valley with views to die for we just knew this was the place. We bought on the mountain next door but one.

We cannot wait to get over there now. (Going for 10 days on 27 December - and have heard the skiing will be good!).
