11347 Italy/UK help and advice

I'll be going back to the UK in a week or two and I wonder if anyone can tell me or point me in the right direction - I have a router/modem bought in Italy....will I be able to use this in the uk?

And... am I right in thinking that I just need to change plugs on any other small electrical things?

Many thanks

Yes ......................... [but don't know about the router/modem]

.

The only snag you might find with the router is that the phone socket in the UK will be a different shape (more rectangular) than the standard squarer socket in Italy. An adaptor, or a UK cable (£2 circa) bought in the UK, should sort this.

For small electrical stuff running on a 'razor cable' (the figure of eight shaped trailing extension socket which plugs into the back of the radio/charger/whatever) it's often cheaper and more convenient to buy these cables new in the UK than to change the plugs!

You will be able to use the modem/router in the UK if your supplier in the UK is via ADSL. If you have a cable cupplier (e.g. NTL) then you need a different type of modem/router that is specifically for a cable supply.

Technically you are correct regarding small electrical items but check your warranty on any laptops. they almost always stipulate you use their proprietary powerpack for that country to retain the warranty.

If there are a number of electrical items that you want to use - buy a 4 way extension lead in Italy, and put a UK plug on it - then you don't have to change all your plugs.

.

Thank you all for your help and ideas. The extension lead is a good idea - I have a UK one that I use here.
