11434 My favourite italian songs

We have been dealing with regional songs through a few interesting threads, but there are so many great pieces of music which will be hard to include. So the idea is to share with others those Italian songs and artists that you have in your heart. The first one I can think of is Milva and "The Show must go on". Don't worry, it is sang in Italian and the lyrics are superb:

Gala, I love the idea of this thread. You're right, it was a shame to chance missing some wonderful music by keeping it in the 'Regions'.

Thank you for this from Milva... my husband 'adored' her and I remember much of her wonderful, but so very sad, repertoire of Bertold Brecht's work...

This, from her early period (sorry about the quality), was my husbands favourite. What a singer..

I'm glad that you liked the idea, Carole. I think that perhaps some members are not familiar with Italian music and great singers and that will help them to develop a taste for it.
Milva, as well as Mina are superb interpreters, but I also love Ornella Vanoni and particularly this classic song:

this is a great track not classic Italian but by Dion from Dion and the Belmonts, Italian American a rare version in Italian... I love it and is also sang in English .

I have never moved anything from you tube before how do you get the screen to come up:nah:

oh i have done it wow... thats easy watch this space :laughs:

Oh yes - la Vanoni... this (below) was the very first record my husband ever bought me... (closely followed, I might add, by Mina's 'Una casa in cima al mondo') - but he was a typically romantic Italian!

P.S. Can anyone remember the male Italian singer who released "Gloria" ? Now that was an up beat number....

I think that it was Umberto Tozzi. Here is his version of "Gloria". He looks so young....

Well, if we are sticking with the golden oldies - then this is one of my favourites - reminds me of early mornings when zia would play this at full blast as she scrubbed the doorstep - in direct competition with the neighbours music also played at full blast as they also scrubbed their steps!

A Chi - Fausto Leali - 1967

A chi sorriderò, se non a te?
A chi, se tu, tu non sei più qui?
Ormai, è finita è finita tra di noi
Ma forse un po' della mia vita
È rimasta negli occhi tuoi!

A chi io parlerò, se non a te?
A chi racconterò tutti i sogni miei?
Lo sai, mi hai fatto male lasciandomi solo così
Ma non importa, io ti aspetterò!

A chi io parlerò, se non a te?
A chi racconterò tutti i sogni miei?
Lo sai, mi hai fatto male lasciandomi solo così
Ma non importa, io ti aspetterò!

Some of the "golden oldies", as JC says, are still superb. I must confess that we buy every year the current San Remo Festival CD and the 2008 is so awful that we never listen to it.
A song that makes me feel good is this one

It is a pity that Al Bano and Romina Power are no longer together as they were a great duo. What a tragedy the story of their daughter!

A particular favourite of mine is "Luce" written by Zucchero, and performed by Elisa. It won The San Remo Festival in 2001.

Five years later at The Winter Olympic Turin 2006 she performed it live.

For the best sound quality this one.

Lovely song, but I'm afraid that we are all showing our age through this thread..... Never mind, I think that they were beautiful songs and they still are.
We are going to celebrate our 40th wedding anniversary in a few days and this is the music we loved (and still love) to listen to. Time is flying....but great music is always a pleasure.

P.S. Sorry Sally, I did not mean your song. I was answering to Oneto's post.
