11447 Potential New Group

For a while now, I have wanted to start a group for artists. Not for advertising and self-publicity, but for practical advice and help.
<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />
For example, I recently found out that Lidl had a special promotion on large canvas stretchers and canvas paint pads. ALL under 10 euros! They sold out within a week (Aulla). Had I know sooner, I would have told everyone!

Other examples are:

Do you have a barn I can exhibit in?
Has anyone got a second hand printing press I could buy?
Does anyone know a good photographer who could help with my portfolio?
Where can I buy oil crayons?
I’ve got an old easel and I’m throwing it away, does anyone want it?
I’ve go writers block/creative overload/stage fright and I need a shoulder to cry on?

And then I thought, the photos could be of members latest works. We artists love to know what others are up to. Attached one of my latest to get you all excited...

I would like to emphasise the practical nature of this group and would be delighted to hear any feedback and in particular if anyone would ‘sign up’.

Excellent idea Persephone! Self help groups always work.

I think it's a great idea too! Let's hope our wiki site is up soon too so we can start our artist/artisan guide.

What about extending the idea to "The Visual Arts" which means drawing, painting, sculpture, architecture, interior, graphic//web design, ceramic, photography and so on.

(A tip already - IKEA do very good frames.)

...and performing arts. Musicians etc.

Do I deduce from this we have a musician/performing artist aboard?

I have no problem with the group title (so long as it is clear) - the more the merrier (including your suggestions Sally).

Great idea Persephone . Go for it and see what happens, you have a core of potential members already.

The only problem I see is that a lot of us live quite a distance from one another, which can be a bit frustrating when you hear of things outside your area.

I am a member of an Abruzzo Art group which is just starting to plan an exhibition and which produced a stunning calendar for Christmas (actually it is down to the wonderful creative energy of one member who drove it all forward)

There are quite a few groups about painting (choose your medium!) on Welcome to Flickr - Photo Sharing which might be of interest - snd some of them are quite interactive. But start a group here - why not!

Can I join? I could be the resident p*ss artist.
And textiles/sewing too....
Of course.

No problem. Conceptual Performance Artists are rare. We look forward to your contributions.

I think there are others better qualified for that position. :laughs:

OK, someone else can be the p*ss artist, I'll be the Government artist - and draw the dole. (groan)

Nielo and Juliancoll.

If you are not going to take my New Group seriously and you are going to lower the tone of my thread, you are both BANNED.

I intend to be a very strict moderator.

Oh s*d, I haven't set the group up yet...:reallyembarrassed:

Banned? 'Twould be nowt but water off a ducks back sweetie.

Now, stop faffing about and set up the group.

Hey Persephone... it shouldn't be a problem - just add a sub group for
"Different Art" (aka 'The Nuts')

I like this - A SUB GROUP. Could act like a 'sin bin' too.

Trouble is, I know exactly 'what might turn up' :frown:

Persephone - Good luck with your arty group. Now go set it up or I'll send an invite to your Venetian mate!!:laughs:

Yes good luck, I think J&C is feeling very frisky today?.

Can you get banned before you join in????? Anyway, just get the group going....

Well you can of course put "undesirables"on one of these infamous Ignore Lists ..... lol By doing that the Moderator has REAL POWER in their grasp Heaven help us. lol

Can I be in a sub group for mime artists?

Or am I already banned?

Nielo - lets set up a group for "undesirables" - we are guaranteed to have at least one member.

Well not exactly a performing musician, but I do jam with some of the best musicians of the Lunigiana, some of them happen to be my next door neighbours. I'm more of an organiser of events, although very informally. We had a group of French musicians play together with Lunigiana musicians informally on the little piazza outside our house. We're also friends with the owners of a music pub in the area. And as I said to you before, we have all kinds of art in part of our palazzo during the summer, exhibitions, performances of theatre, music and poetry. So I just have a general interest.

Have you set up the group yet?
