11460 Vernice Baroque Orchestra

We just attended an outstanding performance of the Venice Baroque Orchestra with guest Giuliano Carmignola. For lovers of classical music they are not to be missed. The Orchestra was founded in 1997 by Baroque scholar and harpsichordist Andrea Marcon and is recognized as one of Europe's premier ensembles devoted to period instrument performance. They have garnered many awards and perform throughout the world.

Our event was all-Vivaldi and featured several works which were previously unrecorded that Vivaldi had composed for friends and patrons.

Carmignola performs on a 1732 Strad. which is on permanent loan from the Cassa di Risparmio in Bologna. His technique is amazing and we have never heard Vivaldi performed the way he does. In addition to his committments throughout Europe, Japan, Korea and the USA this upcoming season, he will be give a series of duo recitals with violinist Viktoria Mullova in Torino, Bologna, FIrenze and Roma, performing on both original and modern instruments in works ranging from duo sonatas of C.P.E. Bach and Haydyn to Bartok and Prokofiev.

Hi Sally,

Thanks for the link to their performance in Boston. I had meant to see if there were any. We just saw them 2 nights ago and only live about 3 hours from there so I thought they were probably block-booked as they wouldn't have come to the Dartmouth College area just for that performance.

Our teenaged son plays the violin and we try to bring him to any concerts we think will inspire him. The concert was stellar and Carmignola's playing was electrifying. There was also an informal talk afterwards with several of the musicians but we were only able to stay for 5 minutes as our son had an audition the next day for Vermont's all-State orchestra festival. The little we heard was most interesting. .
