11610 Recent anti-crisis measures of potential interest

Today the senate will be asked to pass a decreto covering some consumer-side measures intended to support the auto industry and the domestic appliance manufacturers, together with the furniture sector.

The details are not yet available, but on the car front there is likely to be approved a new scheme of 'rottamazione', whereby the state allows you a €1000 discount on the cost of a new car if you part-exchange your old one. If the details are the same as the last rottamazione scheme this discount is applied by the garage (in other words it can be taken advantage of even if you are not paying Italian income tax, IRPEF). It will have to be an Italian reg car, registered in your name. The proposal also means that you don't have to pay car tax on a car bought under this scheme for three years.

On the elettrodomestici and furniture proposals, discounts on these will be allowed if they are purchased in conjunction with a restoration of a house: however, these discounts will probably take the form of a detraction on your IRPEF bill. (I believe that the current discounts on energy efficient fridges etc. will remain, and perhaps be cumulative with the restoration discount.)

The proposal makes these very short-term measures - to run only until September 2009.

Following on from that news Charles, I have read that the Senate has just agreed that the cost of a Permesso di Soggiorno and of a CDS will increase to between 80 and 200euros.
