11581 Shipping/Removals to Calabria

Hi,

I will be relocating to Calabria at the end of February. As I am flying with Ryan Air, it is going to be difficult to pack all my possessions into the 15kg allowance.

Can anyone recommend any companies that would ship to Calabria? I would only be looking to have approx. 4 suitcases sent over and I know many companies would usually only take a whole van load.

Thanks

Nicole

Nicole,

There is nothing to stop you taking all your luggage with you on your Ryanair flight, it's just that you'll have to pay for it. Review your booking online and see how much they charge you for 4 extra cases. I'm sure it'll be cheaper than sending by Fedex. Whatever you do, don't check it in as excess baggage.

I am moving over at the end of March and have a firm of professional movers taking the contents of my flat. It's bound to be a part load and I know most removal companies do this unless you can fill a 40ft truck. It might worth asking one to see how much they'll charge you. It's likely that you would have to collect in Rome though.

Best of luck with your move.

Russ

Maximum bookable online with Ryanair is three bags - with a total cost of £104.50 (plus ticket)

You would have no choice but to pay excess baggage fees! Whilst you can check in up to 3 bags with Ryanair, the COMBINED weight must still be a maximum of 15kgs - anything over and above this will be charged at Excess baggage rates. From the website:

"Each passenger is permitted to check in up to 3 bags with a maximum combined weight of 15kgs, subject to the payment of the applicable checked baggage fees. A discounted checked baggage fee is charged for each piece of checked baggage booked online. If checked baggage fees are paid either at the airport or through a Ryanair call centre, the full rate will apply. (Click here for details)..........................................Any passenger exceeding their 15kg personal checked baggage allowance will be charged for the excess at the applicable rate per kilo. (Click here for details)"

:yes:There is a company called Seven Seas Worldwide who specialise in excess baggage relocation. Their web address is www.sevenseasworldwide.com and their phone numer is 1800 21 66 98. They send anything (even surf boards and violins).
They pick up from your door and deliver to your new address. They deliver boxes to you if needed and then you pack them when it suites you and arrange for them to pick up. They are much cheaper then taking you bags on a plane and you can sen by air or sea.

They are craftier than a crafty thing..... well spotted!

Hi,
welcome to the Forums and thanks for your information.
It would be best to give contact details about enterprises via private message.
Enjoy the Forums,
Cristiana

Thank you all for the messages, I will look into the options mentioned and see which is best.

As for paying for the excess baggage, I learnt the hard way of how much this would cost when moving back to the UK from Spain last summer.... flights cost 300 euros and then an additional 300 euros for excess baggage!!! So this is why I am looking at shipping methods this time...

Thank you again.

Nicola

When I go to the UK I shop and send back a 20 kilo box of stuff to Italy. I read the link below and saw that carrier companies offer low rates for such boxes when they have excess capacity. The arrangement cannot be made in advance but worth investigating. My OH is trying to do just this, today as he's there in the snow and ice!

Here's an update. The company that will organise collection and delivery of our 19 kg parcel is called Parcel Machine (PM me if more details wanted butshould be in the link above). The cost was £24 and payment was via our Pay Pal account. My OH dictated time of collection tomorrow from UK address. All very easy. Now let's see if the box gets to us in Italy. Will report back.

That's brilliant... I had a quick look at that link and it seems to work out much cheaper than some other quotes I have had (ranging from £95 upto a ridiculous £465!!)
Please let me know how you get on with that as it is definately one to consider!

Thank you!

Well so far so good. Parcel collected at times agreed today. We do send all parcels to our friend's hotel as it's just off the superstrada and as covered here in the past, put your phone no in the address details. Unfortunately Couriers aren't the best in Italy.

Hi All
As some of you know, I am in the courier business myself, and took a look at this site, the rates are really good, and the companies listed do have very good infurstructures in the yUK, but all end up in the hands of the local delivery companies this end.
When you make your bookings, make sure that you put the delivery address telephone number on the booking and on paperwork that is printed out.Its also worth trying to find out the name and address of the local depot that is making the delivery.

Interstingly enough RD&M stupidly, I did not think you did picking up big parcels from UK to Italia. If you do, then tell us all about it and if you say read my website I'd say I didn't look there cos I thought you moved House stuff from one country to another.

Hi Noble
just being nosey........did it work ok?

I'll post as soon as the parcel arrives...promise.

I have an alternative company, called Interparcel, which I have used and found to be very competitive and so far efficient. Today I needed to send an odd shape/weight parcel and tried both Interparcel and the above recommendation, but as the weight was 33kg only Interparcel could take it. It has now been collected so fingers crossed it will arrive in one piece.

Good to have a second recommendation. This is what happened to my 20kg parcel sent from UK to Italy using Parcel Machine. Despite appalling weather conditions in the UK and my husband choosing the cheapest possible service on offer from their range of carrier cos, the parcel arrived safe and sound within 5 working days. I would suggest that if you are sending something that must be tracked then pay them a tad more. Amongst their choice is for example, DHL. We chose not to track but if your worldly goods are in boxes on their way to Calabria you'll want to track them! Also at Parcel Machine there is Rhondda, who seems to work long hours and is prompt in replying to emails (favoured method of contact). I wish she had worked for me, she's brilliant.
