11696 used furniture

I am looking for a place near Trevi that I can buy used furniture that is not necessarily in good condition that I can refinish myself for our house in Campello. I love to give furniture a new life and I think I read on this forum once upon a time that there are several places in the country, near Bevagna, that have this kind of furniture. Also, we are looking for a place to buy flowers and scrubs and bulbs. I have been to the Brico near Foligno, but they don't have much of a selection. Thanks! We have only had our house for two years and we are still working on putting together a "home"...but as our neighbor tells us...piano, piano, piano....

I can't help much with the furniture, other than suggesting 'antique' fairs - but no doubt your hairs will be raised by the prices asked!
On the plant buying front, maybe Marc will suggest a 'vivaio communita montana' place local to you (or try a google.it search using that term) - they are usually extremely cheap for good basic shrubs and trees: for anything more exigious you are not very far from vivaio Margheriti (close to Chiusi), and you can browse (their not cheap, but reliable, catalogue) at www.margheriti.it. Their establishment is certainly worth a touristic visit, even if you don't part with any money!

For bulbs, check out your local agric merchants at this time of year, or even the Coop.

There is a professional nursery near Todi (coming from the direction of Perugia it's before Todi) with a vast range of plants and trees. I think it's called Tudor? Perhaps Marc knows it. I will do a search.

Hi

There's also a warehouse called Rinaldini that has used furniture amongst lots of other things(!) in Taverne di Corciano, to the west of Perugia.

Yes there are all sorts of places in this area that sell furniture, old and new but you'll pay way over the top. If you do decide to come this far north in Umbria there was a recommendation for a furniture factory http://www.sedie-tavoli.it/ on this Forum recently. The big Industrial Estate at Citta di Castello is also a place to have a search for furniture but never seen a bargain.

That big Viviaio. Done some asking around Joan. It used to be called Tecnoverde? It is next to the Tudernum (sp)... Cantina in Todi. todi.verde@libero.it. They are professional landscapers too.

There is a giant used furniture store about 30 minutes by car from Todi in Izzalini. It has everything from antiques to modern. There are many good buys if you are willing to look.

Hi Mike

Many thanks for suggesting this place, 'Mercatina del Borgo' it was easy to find, and loads to see, all styles and prices, the owner was very helpful and staff friendly, ( Italian only spoken ) they let us to have a good wander around all the floors unhindered, we found a dining table and chairs exactly what we wanted, and had them delivered the next day, they had polished up everything beautifully, a job that we thought that we would have to do, then insisted they put them in the exactly the right place for us ( very heavy table), we certainly will return for more items in the future and recommend to others.
note they are closed MONDAY, other days open 9-13 and 15-19 incl Sat / Sun

I am glad it worked out for you. I was truly amazed at my first visit. I picked out several pieces of furniture at a cost of about 1,800 Euros. It was a Friday and I did not have the cash with me. After I told the owner that I would return Monday with payment, he said that he would deliver the furniture on Saturday and I could stop by at my leisure to pay. That certainly would not happen in the US. The delivery arrived promptly as promised and the delivery people not only brought it into the house, they also moved some other pieces for me at no charge. As the store is closed on Monday, I returned on Tuesday to make the payment.

We have driven past Vivaio Margeriti several times and never gone in thinking we'll do it next time. I think the next time may have come.

It certainly looks good from the road.

You may wish to browse before you visit

It is possibly the very best vivaio in central Italy and the Margheriti Bros are known world wide. All those famous Tuscans with grand houses use them and no doubt Arabella Lennox Boyd too perhaps? But the prices match their fame, so this is a place to go to for that "must have" plant which you hope won't die from draught, hungry wild life or harsh weather conditions. When you have been taken around by buggy, by a charming young Italian and made your purchases, (Visa welcome!!!), there is a rustic place for a delicious lunch nearby. Ristorante da Gino via Cabina Lago. Closed Wed. It's down by the water on the way to Lago di Chiusi Ask for directions at the vivaio as it's where the workers eat.
