11599 Furnishing a house / B&B

Hi,
We have some friends who are moving to central Italy in the next month. They are looking to furnish a substantial sized Villa and need all the kit and caboodle from kitchens to bedrooms. Does anyone know the best place to buy new or second hand furniture on the Marche Umbria borders as they want to avoid trapsing round multitudes of small shops.
Thanks

if they're on the marche/umbria border, if i were them i'd get everything including the kitchen sink on the industrial commercial estate at Perugia round ponte san giovanni you can get get everything there and there are these big inexpensive places also there.

I've done a little pruning on this to tidy it up; I've put it under the Marche forum as it seems a local question but will happily move it again if required.

Hi Nicky,

We have a place just the other side of Teramo and will aim to come along and see if you have anything that we would like (I'm sure you will). Please post or pm when you decide on whether it will be on the 7th or 8th.

I was curious as to why you were closing and a little searching found loads of really positive things about La Metta Retreat (Trip Advisor and an article in The Guardian no less) and finally I read your rather sad post on your web site. It seems that things haven't been easy for you and I was very sorry to read this. It really sucks when people do their absolute best to make a go of something they truly believe in, only to be undermined by others who either haven't got the drive, imagination or b@lls to give it a go. It's so easy to be critical and unfortunately there are plenty out there who seem to do it for a living, perhaps to make them feel better about their own sad and lonely lives.

All the best for your next venture, whatever that may be.

Hi Nicky - just looked at your website - I'm sorry you're no longer operating. I wish you both Bon Voyage to the next adventure.

Sorry anch'io to hear about (what appears to be) the challenges you have faced. If you have the time and interest would be very interested in hearing more about your experiences, what you have learned, tips for others who are considering taking the same path, cosi via....

Thank you for all you kind messages of support, it really means a lot to us !
It would be a HUGE help to us for people come to our sale on the 7th and 8th of March then we can afford to get back to the UK.
We are also selling the contents of our book shop and our Land Rover Discovery.
Please tell all your friends.
Love and best wishes
Nicky

People sometimes think Im a bit mad when I post on the forum - but I'm going to take a risk here and hopefully you will understand what Im trying to say.

I don't know why your posts have affected me Nicky - I usually don't really give a stuff when a bit of typing on a screen tells me the person or people behind the screen name are leaving Italy due to broken dreams - but your posts are different for some reason. I spent ages looking at your website - I read every single word of it and even though it's not "my kinda thing" - I could see all the hard work and effort that had gone into your venture. I totally "got it" and it made me so sad to think that it wasn't due to bad planning or unrealistic goals that had forced you into closing down, but that people had somehow managed to undo all your hard work and sabotage your life.

Your positive attitude to what has happened is an inspiration and I sincerely hope you move forward in a most positive direction.
As one door closes...

Nicky, I send you all my support and very best wishes for the future. Remember that sometimes it is fate that forces us to move from one place to the other and something may be waiting for you back in the UK which could be better for you and your family. All the work you put into your previous venture is not waste as there is a lot of experience that you have gained from it.

Nicky & Jeff,
You deserve better, are lovely dudes and Le Marche will be poorer without you. Just look at what everyone's writing and many of them don't even know you.

I don't know who's going to step in an take your role in sniffing out and corralling passing English.

You know we'd love you to stay but think that the potential rewards from the business aren't commensurate with the enormous effort and energy that you put into it. If you have the same drive in the UK you'll have a great life.

In bocca al lupo

Hi Nicky and Jeff, so sorry to hear that you are going. We wish you all the best with whatever you do next and buon viaggio.

Agree with Juliancoll, something about this makes me very sad. I, too, have researched Nicky & Jeff's retreat, and find nothing but wonderful stories. Sorry we haven't met before, however, we do plan to attend your liquidation to help fund your return to the UK.
Best of luck in your future endeavors.
