11815 Ciao

I have already done a couple of posts here but thought I should properly introduce myself.

My name is Deb's other half Pete we used to live in Holmfirth, Yorkshire. We brought our shabby..... no very shabby apartment here in Sardinia 4 years ago. We had not decided to live here, it was only for holidays. However one wet January morning after having an awful day at work, decided to jack it all in. A month later jumped on a plane and arrived here............. oh yes we really put a lot of thought into it:laughs:.... all of 3 hours and a nice bottle of wine!!!

Its not all been a bed of roses they have obviously been up's and down's, but overall no regrets. It's nice to be able to have time to appreciate life:smile:

Fantastic story Debbie62

Welcome on board to Italy and this forum.

Only been to Sardinia once, to Alghero and a bit of touring around. Loved it, spicier food than you get here and much hotter climate in the summer. It was where I learned pasta was in fact edible.
Airport transfer was great too - got on the coach, sat down, stood up and arrived at the appartment, then 2 minutes walk to the beach. Flump.

Look forward to hearing more from you.

Hello Debbie

Good for you we still have not been able to take the plunge. We are in the South of Sardinia but my family are from the North so I know it quite well and actually Sorso is quite nice and good base for everything. How are you finding the old sardinian temperament then? My neighbours reliable inform me that the Sassareses have a nastier temper than those of the South which rather explains a lot in my family at least. I am sure though that you have made the right decision and you will find a growing Sardinian community on here..

Regards

JoJo

Hi Debbie and welcome to the Forum. Nothing is a bed of roses and it all takes effort. If you feel happy about your decision, that is the most important thing. Best wishes,

The Sardinian temper....well I just thought the Italians liked a good argument!! I have heard many conversations between men in bars about who cooks the best pasta and that really turns into a heated debate. Its a shame they start the argument in Italian and when it really gets going they switch to Sardo (can't understand a word of it), but its very comical.

Seriously though, yes I do agree they have quite a temper, although in my opinion the men are pussy cats against some of the women here they are really scary!!!!

Surely the argument would be over which of their mama's cooked the best pasta:bigergrin:

:yes:You are probably right, better brush up on my Italian and Sardo. Mamma always makes the best pasta!

Hi, where in Holmfirth? we sold our house in Dunford road four and a half years ago and settled in Emilia Romagna, can happily say don't miss anything ("last of the summer whine,") makes Holmfirth ok if you are a tourist but there's not much for the locals!
Italian life gets more interesting every day, hope you love it as much as we do.

Small world we lived on Swan Bank Lane just off Dunford Road, moved into the cottage in 1990. We must have been virtually neighbours! I agree with you there is not much for the locals, just a staggering amount of charity shops ..... probably even more now.
