Good morning, Carole. As you said, you cannot please everyone and it is always possible to offend someone or be misinterpreted.
I missed quite a bit of the "fun" as I have been (and continue to be) sick. Contrary to what Ghianda says, we have terrible weather in Northern Spain (this winter has been awful) so it is all very depressing around me. I have basically taken care of the Groups I started but I have not had an in-depth look at the threads but I sense that there has been some friction. Don't worry, things come and go. I am sure that most of us like to hear from you. If we were all saying the same things, this would be boring and there would be no forum. We need some salt and spice.

Hi Guys!
Gala, you answered my question, I was going to ask you in the 'health thread' whether you were in Spain or Italy.
Carole, thanks for your post - today like Ghianda I have woken up to a gorgeous day, makes a great change from the rain, rain, and even more rain.
BUT, today I feel pretty good with myself, just finished six weeks of intensive italian (had planned 4 but so enjoyed it signed on for more) and not only has my language level moved on considerably but it has been a fantasic experience for mental and emotional health. Its not often that we as adults put ourselves up for challenge of learning something new. We were so so lucky, for 5 of the six weeks I had one to one tuition and OH had 6 weeks of one to one. The reasons - the global crisis means that fewer people are coming overseas to learn a language and there are always fewer in the winter. I have decided it would be crazy to lose what I have learnt so am going to continue with 2 lessons a week from next month.
So today is a rest day, because the last six weeks have been very tiring, before we start going through our list of things to do before the season starts. Top of my list probably should be 'do not get irritated by some threads' ..I'll try!
:smile::smile:Buona Giornata:smile::smile:

From Ghianda
This is not the real world so there are bound to be strange goings on and occasionally not nice things happening.
Mmmm - Thank goodness it's not the real world Ghianda. But generally I've managed to maintain my distance from most of the situations and attitudes that I was talking about on this thread. It's a shame when, for many, cyber space is often a companionable part of their lives, that it is suddenly turned into not a very nice place to be... and this is caused, as I said, because some silly s*ds don't read posts properly - they just 'skim', their knees jerk and WHAM - they react! Hence my disillusion yesterday

In the real world, I have woken up in the real Italy. The sun is shining this morning, there is barely a cloud in the sky and I feel really great - hope you will to
Yes - I agree. My real world is just like yours this morning and I woke up, as I do every morning, in a place where I'm pleasd to be - the real Italy!
It's not sunny here this morning :nah:, but a bit dull. But it's stopped raining. It's Saturday, which for many is a time for the pleasures of life. But for me - everyday is a pleasure. I'm retired so I wake up and have the advantage of thinking 'What do I WANT to do today?' not 'What have I GOT to do today?' And to have the views I have, live among people that I respect, eat the wonderful food I eat and not have to sell my soul to the devil to be able to pay my local taxes, I feel very fortunate too!
I just have to make myself remember that things can only get better in my little piece of 'cyber space'. Fingers crossed that some others will learn something too from these latest (stupid) examples of incompatibility and irreconcilability.
But I fear they wont!

N.B. This might just be my last post before someone complains and I get the chop - so if that IS the case I'll say Goodbye now!
I will not be complaining, so out of the current 7,423 members, taking into account yourself, Gala, Aretina and Ghianda and myself, that's only 7,418 who might. But I have a good feeling in my bones today, that they won't!
Ci vediamo (not goodbye) CaroleB!

Hi Carole
Like you I pinch myself every day that I am here and not in the UK, last night out with a couple of Kiwis we met on the Italian course and strolling through the Piazza San Francesco in centre of Arezzo, midnightish, there were probably 100 ish people milling in and around the three bars there.
Was there any abuse, drunkeness, vomit, offensive behaviour. Of course Not!
For me, much of the trouble here starts, when for some, their cyber world stops being a companiable part of their lives but their real world. I suppose we should feel some sadness if this is the case. Perhaps, we and I include me, should ask ourselves if we would address/talk to each other face to face in the same way that we do sometimes here on IM.
But, hey ho . its Sunny, I can get out into the garden, can't smell the roses yet but I can listen to the birds.
Posting for many these last few days has been a real test of patience and perspicacity.
Being able to second guess others perception of what is humourous and what is not has become almost an art form. Becoming suddenly aware that, however much you might try to be neutral, some silly s*d or other is going to misquote, misunderstand, misinterpret, misuse, misconstrue, misjudge or just simply be downright blo*dy mischievous, has rather jaded my once strong opinion of what is 'fair and equitable treatment' here on IM!
To that end I just wanted to share with you how 'I' feel at this moment...
So why not share your feelings too?

Carole - for someone who is more than happy to join in JC's turtle-baiting thread here in the Circolo - don't you think you're being a bit over-sensitive?

Not really annec.... I wasn't being 'sensitive' - I was darned annoyed!
Annoyed because due to a selective inability to recognise a very funny/humorous poke by a poster on the evergreen (aka boooooring) subject of the nations favourite (?) people flyer, and the hilarity that followed, a number of posts/threads were moved or deleted without so much as a single 'bye your leave' or even a 'you've gone too far now - you're banned' comment from 'up there' (sorry I can't write 'where' - that' was my downfall last time).
And yes, I do join in the fun - but I don't 'bait' - I DO ask for clarification, and on occasion have even been known to try and arbitrate when things get a bit heated. But as I live in a glass house myself, I will rarely - if ever - throw stones at my fellow posters - but I do enjoy a laugh and a joke...
A._D._M._I._N. however is another matter alltogether. And this thread was supposed to be a reflection on their recent decisions.

Loved the animation Carole, any more of them? And maybe by now it is time for a glass of wine .... oooh yes, 6.05 here in Blighty!
We have 8 weeks until we fly out to Rome, by which time it will be May and I expect everyone will be a lot more relaxed with better weather and sunny times to come.
So hope you are feeling better now!

Carole, take heart!
I don’t think any of the people who have been posting here for any length of time have not, at some time, been misunderstood, misquoted etc. Also many feel they have been dealt with unfairly.
Just shrug it off like water off a ducks back and bide your time to take revenge!:laughs:

Anne - give it a rest please. There was no reason for you to post this towards Carole - especially as you had a right good dig at "turtle" yourself only a few days ago. Had you noticed that your post in that thread was Admin deleted - whereas my "turtle-baiting" thread - as you so very wrongly like to call it - still exists - fully intact.
Does that tell you anything?

No JC - I commented on a particular post by Sally which I didn't like. I don't engage in ritual humiliation for the sake of it, however annoying a poster may be. If I'm wrong about your thread "Crapalina" then I apologise, but I don't honestly think I am. If you are better than me at disguising what you are saying, then I bow to your ability to get round admin, my little Russian ET. Personally, I don't bother about admin's editorialising, all editors are dictators, benign or otherwise, and i've got better things to do than get aerated about what happens to my ramblings on this forum
I don't think it behoves you, JC, prolific poster that you are, to tell someone else to "give it a rest". However, I agree that there's no reason to revive contentious matters that have gone quiet. I replied to Carole in the way I did because it appeared to me that I was implicated in her original post. If I've got that wrong, many apologies Carole, and thanks for your reply.

Not an unexpected reply from you Anne - but yet again, one showing you have misunderstood. Was it through choice?
When I said "give it a rest" you know very well I did not mean for you to "give it a rest" from posting, you know I meant "give it a rest" from having a poke and a dig - leave it to those who are far more experienced.
How such an intelligent woman as you could even think, let alone state, CaroleB had "implicated " you in her post is beyond the comprehension of a fool such as I - she made no reference to you whatsoever, so I suppose I will remain forever ignorant as to why you're trying to pass it off as something it is not.
By the way, I'm not Russian, ET or yours - but if you want to trade insults with me - I'll bet a pound to a penny you're a bit of a sour faced puss sometimes, so why not take the afternoon off and go and buy a nice flowery cushion for your poolside lounger?
If I'm wrong about you - then I apologise - but I'm sure Ikea will still be open if you hurry.
