Sadly, I've never been there either, but I've heard that the Gargano peninsula (nearby) is well worth a visit.

Yes there is the national park there which is probably very well worth a visit. You can see the hills rising from the A14 if you're driving through the area. I haven't heard anything good about Foggia itself though.

Driven round and through it - industrial.
Lucera to the west is much nicer - older town centre with an ancient ampitheatre.
The Gargarno is delightful and if you are in that part of Italy you should also visit the Sanctuary of Padre Pio, in San Giovanni Rotando. Nice climb into the hills and a trip round the church (although it is heavily commercialised)
yes, but I would be in no rush to return. There is though some beautiful coastline up at that end of Puglia which is well worth a visit.
