Grazie Sharon.
31 degrees as the highest is not bad. I suppose to go there to study Italian laungage.
I have no idea how to get to Pizzo but I guess by train from Roma seems relaxing instead flying which could be a hustle sometimes. Better ideas?
I am new to this web site. Seems very nice. :)
I love Italian food, culture and people who love those. :p

If you want to research train times look at www.trenitalia.com - has an English option and you can also buy your ticket.

I live about an hour from Pizzo in Cosenza. It's a lovely little place - famous for it's ice cream which is excellent even by Italian standards. 31 degrees doesn't sound right - it will be mid to late 30's in August.Deffo not 31 or 32 - it's already hotter than that here. It's next to the sea so you won't feel the heat so much but the sun is very strong down here - bring that factor 25!

I'm a bit late off the mark (only found this site this morning!), but i agree with Stuart. According to everyone here the climate has changed significantly in the last 10 to 15 years! I was here last August and the temperature was rarely below 36 and on 3 unbearable days was over 40 degrees. Mosquitos can also be pretty lively then! You must also appreciate that 57 per cent of Italians take their holidays in August (I remember last year that in 1 week of August only 3 million people in the whole country were at work) and most of them like to hit the beach. This means traffic in the morning to get to the beach, at 12.30-1.30 to get home for lunch, 3-4 to get back to beach and so on!!! For these reasons I am choosing to flee back to Ireland for a few weeks rather than endure it this year.
If you do come, and the heat gets too much, head up to the hills! The mountain ranges in Calabria are fantastic, Sila etc and i would love to hear from anyone who would be interested in a bit of trekking (read walking but energetically!) maybe in September when i get back!

Hi. this might be useful http://www.weatheronline.co.uk/Italy/LameziaTerme.htm
gives historic temperature (Lamezia is only about 20 mins north of Pizzo). In August shows temps 27-32 degrees.
Envy you spending August there! I was an au-pair there many years ago ( In August - not unberably hot) - it is a wonderful place - 'proper' italy - last went there in 94 so may have changed a bit since.
How are you getting there? Shame that the ryannair flights were such a short experiment - used to be summer charters there from Luton - quite expensive tho'.
Hope you have a fantastic time! Don't miss the tartuffi gelati!
