The fixtures come out very late in comparison to the UK. If you are not too particular who you watch and Milan, Genoa or Rome is on your itinerary then its worth remembering that as these cities have two serie A clubs that use the same pitch, one of them will always be at home. Provided you avoid the international fixtures. Another thing to remember is that the Saturday and Sunday evening games are not selected until 2 or 3 weeks before hand.

and sadly I now have to cope with games on Thursday and Friday evenings as my beloved Brescia were relegated on Sunday.

It has always driven me mad with anger the way the TV compaines in italy leave it so late to change fixtures ... why oh why can they not just put out three months TV fixtures in advance like Sky do here... or even better just take football off TV in every country and give it back to the true supporters !!!!!

I may be jumping the gun but if Ascoli win this weekend and then win the play-offs you may be in with a slim chance of obtaining a ticket for one of their away matches such as at the san siro.I think the Inter fans will stay away due to fear.
It is amazing but there is talk of a spending spree in the summer-Ronaldo or someone like that-just for starters!!

Sorry for the ignorance but can anybody tell me how promotion and relegation between Serie A & B works. If Genoa win this weekend are they definitely promoted?

nothing to do with Italian football is ignorance - in which other country can you finish 3rd from bottom but not be relegated - but fith from bottom and have to play off against the 3rd from bottom team - whilst the team fourth from bottom remain in the division on the grounds they had a better performance vs the other two sides on the same points ......

Now to your question - If Genoa win this weekend they they are promoted - if they draw and both Perguia and Torino win - then the games that they played vs each other set in a mini league - whoever comes out on top of that league based on the games played against each other during the season will be promoted - the other two teams will then play-off against each other to decide who is promted.

If they loose and the other two win .... nah noty sure about that one .. but Genoa will play-off vs either Torino or Perugia depending on whihc of them has the best record in games played between themselves {I think}

So there you have it - clear as mud

If Genoa win this weekend they will definately be promoted to Serie A as the other teams below them Perugia and Torino are two points behind. There is a play off between Parma and Bologna to decide the last Serie A relegation place, should be this weekend i think ??. Once again sorry Brescia, you will be back,,,,,,,,,,,it should have been La Viola going down :p . Once again my team Siena clinched safety on the last weekend of the season but the best part was finishing above Fiornetina :D .

Why not just have a straightforward 3 up 3 down system :confused: . If you finish 3rd in Serie B you should be automatically promoted level on points or not, likewise if you finish 3rd from bottom in Serie A you should be relegated. Mind you the Play Off system in this country is not to everyone's liking and my team Notts County have been on the winning and losing end, you think it's great when you win but you hate it when you lose.

Thanks for that - I think I understand it now! As Genoa are at home to Venezia I would expect them to win and then we'll have the choice of 2 Genoa teams to watch in Serie A next season (we have a place near Imperia).

Nah we blew it tactically on the last day of the season - as for straighforward relegation and promotion - there is talk that next year goal differnce will count and the mini league system will be scrapped.

Promtion will still be a play-off but I think the eight point rule may also get abandoned

:: The Italian Football Association (Lega Calcio) have today confirmed that the new Serie A season will start on Sunday August 18th 2005.

:: The final round of matches will be played on Sunday May 14th 2006.

:: A week before that start of the season, champions Juventus will face the Coppa Italia winners (Inter Milan or Roma) in the SuperCoppa Italia Final on Saturday August 20th 2005.

we went to watch a game last year when house-hunting, and it was in brescia in a very tiny pitch in the middle of the mountains! :) :)

brescia was playing a team from sicily, i think it was palermo and the away team played much better and won the game eventually...the brescia supporters were not happy! it was real trouble in the stands but the game was fun to watch!

I was at the Rigamonti for that game - we were absolutley shocking Palermo played us of the park - Di biasi should have been sacked striaght after - but was left long enough to take us down :(

Cannot recal any trouble - If you were refering to what was happening on the Curva Nord {Behind the goal} where people kept milling around - that wasn't fighting that was the Brescia fans engaging in a little slam dancing due to the game being so boring - One thing you can always gaurentee with Brescia the Tifosi will always keep you smiling :p

we were sitting amongst lot of tifosi wearing pink and black tops and singing all the way through...was this the curva nord?

a bit of banter (i think the tifosi were swearing at each other for what i could gather...unless showing the middle finger means differently in Italy than in England :D ), lot of dancing and, surprise surprise, no alcohol on the stands, unlike for the English games.

It was a good game, I enjoyed it and I thought that it was funny that me and my husband were in the middle of a misty sunday, in a football pitch lost somewhere amongst the mountains and with a serie a team which was wearing pink tops!

I'm new to this site and looking for advice - a crowd of us (hubbies and wives) will be heading out to Rome next spring for the Italy - Scotland Rugby match (my first ever rugby game!); some of want to take in a Serie A match on the Sunday - are tickets easy to get?

Tickets for games in Rome are always obtainable one way or another, it depends on who's playing and how much you want to spend. stadio Olimpico holds over 80,000 and it's very very rare that Roma will fill the ground and a major miracle if the other lot in blue do.

Tickets for Roma can be bought at the club shops. There's one in Piazza Colona which is just off via del Corso. Best advice is get distinti nord tickets (very cheap 15-20 euros, but far off in a corner) unless you are prepared to pay 50-100euros for a ticket down the sides. If it's not a big game you can also buy tickets at the gound right up till kick off if you can wade through the touts.

Biggest problem you may have however is a clash. If the rugby is a Sunday afternoon kick off and the football game hasn't been chosen as a TV game they will kick off at the same time which will make the tram ride up to Stadio Flaminio a bit hair-raising should you choose to take it.

Regarding Abruzzo. Pescara are in Serie B (Division 2). They could however get relegated this weekend.

Relegated: Pescara, Venezia and Catanzaro

Torino and Perugia look set to meet in the promotion play-off Final after both secured precious away victories in the semis.

The first leg ties went in favour of the big clubs, as Torino silenced Ascoli’s Stadio Del Duca thanks to Quagliarella’s 32nd-minute header on Andre Pinga’s free kick. The home side had a good chance to even the score when Antonelli rattled the crossbar.

Perugia fared even better and were able to beat Treviso on their own turf despite playing almost the entire second half in 10 men due to Milanese’s dismissal. Stendardo had already given the Grifoni the lead on the stroke of half-time, though Treviso pushed hard for an equaliser and had several scoring opportunities with Reginaldo.

The second leg encounters are on Sunday evening, while Triestina and Vicenza meet for the relegation play-outs on June 19 and 25.

Play-Offs: Toro return to Serie A Sunday 26 June, 2005

Torino will join Empoli and Genoa in Serie A next season after winning the play-offs, though the decisive encounter with Perugia went to extra time.

Toro were confident of progress after their 2-1 first leg victory at the Stadio Curi, but as away goals do not count in the play-offs, this left them only a slender advantage.

That was quickly wiped out after just 21 minutes of play when Giuseppe Mascara gave Perugia the lead in front of 50,000 fans in Turin.

The Granata were visibly concerned at the state of events, but also knew that this scoreline would eventually see them through to the top flight if it remained until the end of extra time.

Under the rules of this new promotion system, the winning side would be the one that was placed higher up the table at the end of the regular season. Mudingayi was sent off for time-wasting in the closing stages, but it was too late for Perugia.

Torino return to Serie A after a two-year wait and will be able to play the Turin derby against Juventus next term.

It is the second play-off heartbreak for Perugia, as they lost the decisive tie with Fiorentina to drop down at the end of last season.

The Serie A ( and B and C1 and C2) fixtures for 2005/2006 are being published next week.

Always remember that Saturday/Sunday options are always fixed only 2 weeks before the event, to satisfy the requirements of Mediaset and Sky Italia.

That would mean then that by the time they have finished arguing about who is going to be in what division due to the numersous bribery scandals being investigated and the financial state of the teams - we should see some fixtures around about the 27th August and the season with luck once all the will we won't we court cases have been concluded or dropped should see a start to the season around September

I think the first two teams in serie B at the end of the season move up to serie A.
But then there is a weird thing, I am not really sure how it works, but they sort of draw another team... I am not really sure...
I support Torino and we were supposed to move up to serie A, but now the team is having finantial problems and we might not be able to...

Can you say me how much tickets are? In fact I interested in tickets on domestic games of AC Milan. How much about tickets for the games?

And my next question is as far as it is difficult to buy tickets on AC Milan domestic game directly in day of the game?

Depends on the match - for the big games Inter juve etc they are sold out way in advance and unless you are prepared to pay some tout an astronimcal amount you will not have a prayer of getting the tickets

For the smaller games Sampdoria, Chievo, Sienna et al - there is no problem to buy tickets on the day - not sure about the prices but the last time we went to the san siro i thin it was something like 22 euros for the second tier which is a fantastic view

Note tickets are cheaper if you buy them on the day in italy rather than in advance going through an agent - most of the agents want about 60 euros for a second tier ticket

Today's sad news that both Messina and Torino are to be expelled from Serie A, means that the release of Fixtures have been put back by a further 14 days whilst the matter is being sorted out by the Italian FA and the various courts.

Altogether, some 12 clubs are under threat of punishment in the A, B, C1 and C2 leagues for failing to meet financial requirements.

Bologna appears to be in pole position to be restored back to Serie A according to the C4 Football Italia site.

Both Torino and Messina are quietly confident of being reinstated somewhere along the three appeal processes- the mind boggles. But this is par for the course almost every season. Only thing you can say with confidence is that the fixtures won't be out next week. Other than that my gut feeling is Napoli up into Serie B.

Rumour has it the Juve-Roma friendly mentioned is to be played in Palermo.

Now newly promoted Genoa have been charged by the Italian FA with fixing their final game of the season against Venezia. If found guilty they could be expelled from Serie A. Fixture list in July? Not very likely.

Latest news is that fixtures will be delayed till at least August 5th. :eek:

Genoa have been found guilty of match fixing and demoted to Serie C1. They can, and most probably will, appeal.

Messina's first appeal has been turned down but they can appeal through another body, and will probably do so.

Fixture list for August 5th could be optimistic.

Biondi has said the club will appeal. However, the President of Genoa resigned following the outcome of the inquiry. The Italian media are giving Genoa virtually no chance of succeeding in any appeal. The Torino appeal is heard on Monday 2/8/05.

So, Venezia appear to accepted their punishment, which seems to queer the pitch for Genoa. Messina are having an appeal next week and all the other sides appear to have accepted the findings.

The Upshot of this is that Bologna will be reinstated in Serie A. If Messina, Genoa and Torino all go down, Perugia one of the losing playoff teams have already been deemed unsuitable - leaving the way clear for Ascoli to join Empoli with Bologna in Serie A.

Napoli meanwhile should be entered in Serie B. :cool:

I hope they get all this sorted soon and get those fixtures released for next season. I am hoping to get over for a game or two next season and need to arrange my time off to coincide with the games i want to see. Just out of curiosity which teams in Italia do we all support ?. In my case it is A.C. Siena, la prima squadra in Toscana :) .

It's all a bit crazy at the end of the season here in Italy.Feel very sorry for Messina and Torino in particular. Messina fans blocked the ferries over to Calabria last night in protest. I'm in Cosenza and the same thing happened - relegated to Serie D from B and no hope of climbing back up again which is a real shame for a city that wasn't far off Serie A 4 years ago.Very sad.

Sorry to disappoint you FB, they have been vetted already. They are provisionally in, pending the appeals of 2/8 and 5/8 from Torino and co.
