I own (thank you bank) 3/4 of my house - my parents have 1/8th each -
I have to fill out an ICI form for each of us (and pay all of them :( )
The married couples that I know with joint ownership of the house fill out two payment forms and pay separately (ok, one goes to the post office and pays both but it's 2 forms)

Thank you for your replies. Of course I found it very amusing to hear that men were responsible for bills! If we wish to make two payments what procedure do we need to follow in the comune?

You just go to your local accountant - if you don't have one just ask someone you know for a commercialista.
They will figure your ICI out for you and your husband and fill out the payment forms for each.
You can also try and figure it out alone but the first times save yourself the headache and pay 20 Euros (a friend of mine is a commercialista so he does it for me for free) to have them figure it out.

NOt really a headache to fill out anymore. I have a tutorial on this (with links to the program that calculates it for you). You can find it here http://www.expatsinitaly.com/how/ici.htm
P.S. If only one of the owners pays the full amount of the ICI, you must write a letter to the comune stating that _your name____ paid the full amount of ICI due for _your name ____ and __the other house owners name____ for the property__ via blah blah blah___.

Thank you all for your helpful replies. We have been paying ICI successfully for three years and find it easy to calculate ourselves. Our local comune is also willing to be helpful if required. My main concern was whether we needed to make two 50% payments. It certainly sounds as if it is advisable.

Yes you need to make payments for each owner. When I fill out the bolletini each year I do one for my husband and one for me. This year though I paid online. To do this I had to set up two user accounts (each with our full names and codice fiscale) and then paid one charge using my husband's credit card and his user account and then did one for me using my credit card and my user account (although I am sure I could have paid both with the same card).

Thanks I will fix it. I was in such a rush to do that before the ICI deadline that I just translated etc.

Hi Cristina
Do you have a particularly progressive comune? Or do you pay online via another organisation?
Strikes me not all comuni would be set up for online ICI payment.
Can you advise please. We are joint owners of our house. However when the ICI transfer was registered at the comune we were advised that men pay all the bills in Italy and the ICI and rifuti payments are soley in the name of my husband.
I have since read that joint owners should each pay half the ICI. What is correct and what is it best to do. If this require a change and how do we do it. I would be very greatful for your reply - I am sure other members of the forum may have encountered this issue.
Joint owners should each pay half the ICI, but, if you like it, one of the owners can pay the full tax
Wife or housband is the same, who told you that "men pay all the bills in Italy" ????
Me and my wife own our house and I pay my half of ICI and my wife her half, I prefer this way because it's more simple and avoids misunderstandings with the tax office.
Rifiuti is different, because its payments are just made under the name of one (man or woman is the same) of the people who live in the house
