sebastiano hits the nail on the head exactly.... some people who have either bought in or visit this area will complain sometimes about the agriturismo food being always the same.... in a sense its true but what happens as the seasons change is that you get diffent food coming to the table ... straight from the fields almost..... thats the beauty of the place.... our local eating place which we do not get fed up with... can surprise us still from month to month as whatever is in season is placed on the table....
... and in general the italian supermarkets and local shops follow the same rules... the vegetables and fruit dont look so good as in say the french chains that are opening up here but its all much fresher.... market days in the local towns are also a good time to go and do a bit of fresh produce shopping... yes many of the stalls are clothes etc ... but get to the fresh produce part and find the little man with the dirty fingernails and you will get the best freshest local food....
at the moment all our neighbours are supplying us with apricots ... the month before it was cherries... next month it will be figs.... and so it goes on... real food which still tastes like real food ....

So I'm not just going blind then! Agree, the fresh produce here does taste very fresh and flavoursome. Thanks for the advice, will bear it in mind.
if you mean mushrooms then the cultivated ones are available from any supermarket.
if you mean funghi ( not technically mushrooms) they are not here yet until the period from late september on unless you buy dried ones.
Treviso is one of the best places i know to get good fresh funghi (i go there from the Marche just to get them!) but don't particularly expect to get them (at least the better ones) in normal shops they're more expensive and often imported ones.
Just hang around long enough you'll start to see lorries from the Dolomites and places like Belluno selling at the road side....
In the meantime just enjoy seasonal food.................
p.s. oranges will start late november until january then thats it till the next year..thats the way it is here.
otherwise there's always Tesco's in the uk selling strawberries in january and cherries in november etc.
