Hi

We used holidayrentals.net and owners-direct.co.uk and both sites gave us a fair amount of enquiries.

Have you tried www.laymyhat.com? This site is a mine of info for renters and has specific sections dedicated to advertising and advertisers

We have had a few good bookings from http://www.holidayhavens.co.uk we are on their free two month trial. Added all of our images and text on the web, they seem to list highly in the search engines aswell which is always worth checking out before you commit to any particular websites.

.........But why bother with Tuscany........so last year........Le Marche is now the place to be in central Italy

Tuscany is only 'so last year' if you happened to go there last year. Tuscany became particularly fashionable 20+ years ago because of all the regions of Italy, Tuscany has the best (arguably) balance and volume of history, sites, scenery, weather, accessibity, infrastructure and so on.

To not stay in Tuscany because it is now not as fashionable as say Le Marche - particularly if you have not previously visited Tuscany - would be madness. Le Marche pales into insignificance when compared with the riches to be found in Tuscany.

It wasn't really serious........we have indeed visited Tuscany a great deal..............but 'Le Marche pales into insignificance'.........well!!....the real seat of the renaissance if I'm not mistaken (Urbino for instance)........all of us lovers of things Italian should travel the length and breadth of this lovely country and ............'Carpe Diem'!!

best wishes, didn't want a row

Has anyone seen the move I dance alone by bertolucci??? the one with a very young Liv tayler?
Well it is set in Toscana in a cascina in the middle of the hills... the photograph is breathtaking...

Unfortunatley I have no suggestions on house rentals over there... I have been in Tuscany many times, and i will be going again for my honey moon in september... but I am staying in an agriturismo in Pentolina.

The only suggestion is try to avoid going during august as it is the italian Holiday Time. From september you will get a better value for money!

In having worked in Tuscany for four years and travelled extensively throughout each of the ten provinces, I would agree that this region of Italy has much to offer the discerning visitor and that many undiscovered riches are to be found outside the mainstream tourist areas. I would also agree that chosing a location to visit should have nothing to do with being fashionable or not.

But I would question neilcmcn’s comments about the Marche. The Marche may not be as sophisticated as Tuscany, but it does enjoy a number of great historical and cultural riches as well as being a land of rare natural beauty. I adore Tuscany but whenever I visit and get caught up in the inevitable and ever-growing traffic jams around Florence, I can’t wait to get back to the beautiful and unspoilt Marchigiano heartland. There is absolutely no reason for Marche to envy Tuscany.

Now can we return to the subject?

Casa Tuscany: http://www.casatuscany.com/

are an English web site who have a good list of long term rental properties. I spoke to them when I was looking and they were very helpful. They specialise in properties north of Lucca (Bagni di Lucca area).

We'd always found www.Holiday-Rentals.com useful.

(as well as, ahem www.TuscanHills.co.uk!)

what about http://www.laymyhat.com/?
it looks like you would rent from the owners without using an agency...

Paola

Hi all,

There are some good agencies, there are lots of bad agencies.

What is a bad agency? In my opinion it is the company which has to add so much to the price of the rental required by the owner in order to cover their 40% commission fees, that no-one is getting a good deal apart from themselves. My measly income is made from the work we have put into the house and the on-hand service we deliver to holidaymakers, not from putting a picture of someone else's house onto the internet and sitting back waiting for £400 to roll in to pay for 3 emails (ooh...back in the knife drawer!!!).

We are listed on a couple of sites, Tuscanhills.co.uk and holidayhomesinitaly.co.uk who both communicate well, promptly, and in a friendly but professional manner. The customers we have had from them have been wonderful guests (relaxed and enthusiastic, careful around the house, and happy to slip quietly into italian village life).

Good and bad can only come from recommendations...and people will more talk of bad than good, perhaps a praise/condemnation (for want of a better word) page on this site would be a nice addition..but you know how us british are scared of naming names in case we offend.

Estate agencies are the same, as are geometras...but that's a whole other story...

Why does everyone have to parellel every region with Tuscany.

Tuscany is Tuscany and I believe all the regions in Italy are equally as wonderful, beautiful for their own reasons.

I cannot believe that people are saying "Le Marche" or "................" is the place to be. The place to be is where you want to be. It is a personal choice as to what you want from a region.

So please lets all keep this in mind

Sorry for this moan
:)
