766 olive trees

Morning,
I have just acquired an olive grove with 140 trees. The farmer who previously owned them said he would do the work needed and pick them for himself and would pay me about 2,000 euros.Would anyone reading this know if this is a fair price. They are decent trees in a good oil producing region.
Thank you.

seems to me excessively high payment... was the offer in writing

Be VERY careful, was the offer for a single year, or forever, it is an enormous payment for a single year, you will need a contract with him too, please be wary, it IS possible that you can lose the right to EVER farm your land again if you aren't careful, contact your local Coldiretti Office, or, a lawyer you trust to draw up a contract stating the rental, and the precise number of years.
Good Luck.

It sounds too high, 140 trees are good for about 3-4 quintale of olive oil which can be sold for about 1800 - 2400 Euro. At least that's about how much w make from ours, picking the olives ourselves and selling to the local cooperative. You may make slightly more by selling at the farm gate, but not much more.

You need to check what the basis for the rental is. As an example when we rented out our land five years ago we got 60 litres of oil a year in rent (EUR 360) for the same number of trees. He may have been offering you a price for five years use of the land.
