791 holidaying/buying Marche help please

Hi all

We are flying into Ancona in the first week in August for a one week holiday. Taking the odd day out to tour some of the regions of Marche and Abruzzo with a view to eventually buying a property. Please can anyone suggest in order of priority a place to stay, preferably with a view and possibly a pool but anything considered. Places to visit within the regions and where to avoid. I know that it is only for a short time so I would be greatfull if members can recommend the best villages and towns to visit that best sum up the regions. If we only manage Marche then so be it we will return later in the year.

Many thanks Andy

Andy...

I would take some time and explore as much of the region as possible.
The Montefeltro to the north is a wilder, yet beautiful country, steeped in history.

The countryside and towns/villages aound Urbino are also worth looking at. If you come down further south then the rolling hills around Recanati, Macerata, Fermo, and Ascoli are very attractive. If you like the mountains, then head towards the Sibillini.

You really have a lot of choice.

Andy like charles I agree with him take your time and dont be tempted to fall for the first place you see !
My advise is to make yourself a list of like and dislikes and go from there. My wife and I had to visit Le Marche 3 years running before settling on Cingoli, the property though semi derelict did tick most of our requirements. We too will be in italy last week in July and first week in August hoping to arrange refurbishment work on the property. Wish us luck as building firm owners are related to my italian cousin.

Hi Hugo

Its nice to see someone also from the Cingoli area, well near at least. We live in Isola, which is over the hill by the Dam. Having moved permanetly in Feb we think the region is great and what great neighbours.
As for the orginal thread Le Marche is a mixed region. I would visit anything west of the A14, to avoid the tourist trap. Cingoli is nice, so are the big towns of Macerata, Tolentino and San Severino. I would do as we all have done, is drive around and see what catches your eye. Everyone's interpretation of a house or region is different. I particulary like Moscosi, Apiro and Osimo, but the choice is huge.

Good luck with your trip

Hi Andy,

Places in Southern Le Marche definitely worth seeing are Fermo, Petritoli, Monterubbiano, Offida, Montefiore, Ripatransone, Acquaviva Piceno (Small but great views and castle), Montalto, Monterinaldo, Ascoli Piceno and San Benedetto has fantastic palm tree lined beeches and a bustling nightlife if you are missing it. Also has some nice little shops according to the gf!! Inland Amandola and Sarnano are the big places, with alot of brits. The town of Force has great views for miles out to sea which must be around 50km or more.

We stay just outside Offida until our house is renovated at www.vinoffida.com, it's a very good B&B with great hosts, it has everything but a pool unfortunately. It is in a good location for touring Southern Marche and Northern Abruzzo. Don't know much about Abruzzo but I think the northern part has by far the best scenery, I'm sure some may disagree.

Have a good trip.

Thanks everyone keep the thoughts coming. I am very much obliged.

Regards Andy
