927 Help needed with Insurance

Is there anybody out there who has insured an apartment? I am struggling to find a policy that is suitable and would welcome any help you can give.

Contents insurance is easy, but it's the rest that is a problem. The building is insured by the condominium association and I have managed to get a copy of it from the administrator and it's very well covered, but just the bricks and mortar.
I have contacted a number of British insurers who specialise in holiday homes but that hasn't helped either.

Basically what I have asked for is contents cover plus cover for fixtures and fittings ( bathroom and Kitchen) plus liability i.e. if a pipe bursts and floods the downstairs apartment etc

Saga- cover apartments but only if they are uninhabited for less than 2 months at a time.

Lark insurance - great service they new exactly what the problems were and suggested what was required but guess what? When the quote arrived your not covered if you property is empty for more than 2 months!

Schofields- said they couldn’t help!

Copeland - yes they can do it for 500 pounds with insufficient liability

I can't believe these companies are offering holiday home insurance but only if your resident most of the time, seems to miss the point doesn't it!

If any body out there can help I would be most grateful.

Susi, perhaps the silence is answering the question, you have already researched the problem, maybe others have too, and reached the same conclusion, maybe it again points to Italian insurance companies missing a market opportunity...

Here is something similar taken from another site:

Have used Schofields for buildings & contents with no problem on a Spanish property where the community insurance covered only the communal areas. They do cover it when you're not there, don't require weekly/monthly visits, cover public & neighbour liability, loss of rentals etc. In fact I thought their level of cover was pretty good and quite a bit cheaper than Saga, at least on our property.
Might be wrong, but I think the problem might be that you want contents & PARTIAL buildings cover - not even sure if that's readily available for UK property? Only option might be to go for full contents & buildings cover and accept that 2 insurers are covering the bricks & mortar.

Susi, have you spoken with the company which covers your contents insurance in the UK, there may be a way of covering your apartment through them

Susi, I helped a couple of British friends with the same matter. They used Generali and got an insurance covering damages to the building, to the content and to third-party (risk) within the property and out of the property. I do not know the rate but they told me it was reasonable. The only problem that my friends had with Generali was that the agents of their area did not speck any English :-) … May be you will be luckier.

''Basically what I have asked for is contents cover plus cover for fixtures and fittings ( bathroom and Kitchen) plus liability i.e. if a pipe bursts and floods the downstairs apartment etc ''

iv just taken insurance from UK insuranbce providers and building insurance does already cover for fixtures and fittings ( bathroom and Kitchen) plus liability i.e. if a pipe bursts and floods!!
