654 Insurance (House, contents & car)

David and I are looking into house, contents and car insurance before our move. Does anyone here care to advise a family of newbies the best places to secure insurance as we are finding the whole episode daunting!

Many thanks from a sleepless Karen & David.

BancoPosta's home insurance cover is available at your local Post Office and is well documented at the following link (if you Italian is OK)

One feature that is worth considering is that it offers cover for subsidence and landslides, which many policies don't.

We found Direct Line's Italian division useful for car insurance, since they were clued-up on the concept of tranferring your UK no-claims bonus to an equivalent Italian one ('Bonus-malus') and they quoted a good rate from the outset.
Their web address is www.directline.it and we found their capo in Italy, James, very helpful.

You will need to ask your present insurer (presumably in the UK) to write you a letter citing your present no-claims bonus and period without an accident claim.

One word about insurance in general; you seem to have to give insurers quite a lot of notice if you want to change to another company. If you just let it expire, you exisiting insurer will assume that you want the cover renewed ad-infinitum and you'll owe them money. It pays to read the small print.

''Basically what I have asked for is contents cover plus cover for fixtures and fittings ( bathroom and Kitchen) plus liability i.e. if a pipe bursts and floods the downstairs apartment etc ''

iv just taken insurance from UK insuranbce providers and building insurance does already cover for fixtures and fittings ( bathroom and Kitchen) plus liability i.e. if a pipe bursts and floods!!

try searching on here may help

I think the quote was from my post, I have tried all the uk holiday home insurers, the problem is that I don't want building insurance it's already provided by the management company.
