777 Which areas are best to look for a coastal property for about E200K?

I am just wondering if a lakeside property might be another option and more convenient for Umbria (my mum lives there). Any ideas would be welcome. We are planning to visit in October and would like to spend some time scouting around for possible areas.

You could try the Lago Maggiore too. It is very easy to reach from Milan or turin and is not as expensive as lake Garda. Or Lago d'Orta.

Porto Recanati, or in general the Conero Riviera (Sirolo - Numana) in Marche.
Beautiful place, near Umbria, Ancona Airport within 20 min etc.
Good investment, since price are increasing.

I don't think the Lake Orta area is that expensive - unless you actually go 'lakeside'. 3 years ago I bought my 'holiday home' in a tiny village 10 minutes from Lake Orta, with views of the Alps and beatiful countryside, [and a "glimpse" of the lake].

Its a converted barn [done in the 1970s] with a vast garage plus store room on the ground floor with 2 bedrooms, large lounge kitchen area and bathroom, [and balcony area] on the first floor.- the total cost of the house, including putting in central heating, gas, new kitchen, new bathroom, new electrics etc, was under 100.000 Euros - less than £65.000.

All the work was done, to time and cost, by local tradesmen, and I used a geometra to convert my designs into working drawing, obtain permissions and quotes, and supervise the works [easy peasy - why do it yourself?]

Good luck wherever you go - the only real advice I would give is spend a lot of time looking before you buy.

I am interested in buying something on or near the water in the area between Rome and Naples, including possibly Gaeta, Terracina, Circeo, Netuna, Latina, Sabaudia, Anzio, etc.

Requirements are 2bedrooms & 2baths, plus enough room for a small garden.

No apartment-style condo wanted. Prefer house, but what we Americans call a "townhouse" (one shared wall only on ground level) is okay too.

Budget: Around $300,000 American.

I definitely wouldn't look anywhere in Sardinia, the sea is dirty, the beaches are non-existent, the people are horrible and the food is disgusting.

Steer clear of Sardinia it smells bad here....

I would thoroughly recommend Northern Abruzzo, definitely a superior place to almost anywhere else on the planet. :cool:

We are back to the fact that we all think the area we have chosen is the best!

We would throughly recommend Northern Lazio
Lakes, sea, mountains, culture, easy access to Roma.
In fact we have it all here and property is still reasonably priced (shush, don't tell anyone)
Anyway come and see for yourselves!

Other than Sunderland, Tyne and Wear, but, that would mean staying in the UK, BUT, you could buy a massive tract of land, many houses, and a sunbed, and not need to bother actually visiting this wonderful country at all... ;)
