Thanks for the reply, I don't think using the gas would be a problem, I'd want a gas cooker too, (its what I've got used to as home). How would I go about finding out who is the gas supplier for my region?
Thanks again
Paula

The Gas supplier is always Italgas, all over Italy.
So you have to get in touch with them.

NOT AT ALL PAOLA
THE GAS SUPPLIER THAT PAULA NEEDS IS DIFFERENT BECAUSE; IF I HAVE UNDERSTOOD WELL; she has to get a tank in her garden (or somewhere like this) periodically filled:
if so there are many local companies that do this service
my best advice is to ask your neighbours they are probably manging in the same way or you can see in paginegialle under the voice "gas metano e gpl in bombole e per serbatoi" or "gas precompressi e liquefatti"

Yes,
but it is always best to contact Italgas first to make sure they are not ready to connect you to their mains, as they are trying to bring the service all over Italy, even in the remote places.
In that case no gas tank would be needed.

Make sure you calculate the costs for using the stuff too, it can be damned expensive, and unless you do a lot of cooking, you might find that you can actually get away with using one of the cookers which use a gas bottle within the cooker for it's gas supply.

Your right about the tank, I want it underground though, couldn't put up with a big ugly thing in the garden and it will have to be topped up (just like our water). As for cooking, not if I can help it. If the suns out its BBQ like we do here and thats Neals department.
Neal is going for 3 days next week and I'll instrunct him to find out what he can.
Thanks

[QUOTE=neal hampson]Whilst the villa we've bought in Puglia has an electricity supply we don't have a gas supply and would like to fit a boiler and radiators. We have been told we can have a large tank installed by the gas company either above ground or below ground. Has anybody been through the same process and what sort of figure did it cost. I want the tank below ground and again not sure who to contact. After having a couple of quotes have decided to do things as much as possible ourselves (basically money tight and not out to do locals out of a bit of work).
Thanks

We use GPL. it is obligatory to have an underground gas cylinder and those who still have over ground ones over time will have to change. There is no possibiklity that there will ever be mains gas in our area.We have changed suppliers now three times and are now using Total Gaz.We are also paying a very good rate which is Euro cents 41 per litre.Gas cylinders used for cooking etc cost Euro 2,00 per litre (euro 20,00 x 10 liters)We had to get the excavation done ourselves, the cylinder was put in free, the plumber connected to the house,we signed a contract with the gas company.i don't know the costs of earth moving equipment in your area but you could probably get someone to dig the pit and trench at Euro 50,00 per hour.
hope that is of help.

When you changed suppliers did you have to have the tank changed? We have always thought that you would have to as the tank is owned by the suppliers or can you buy it from them if you choose to change suppliers?
Thanks

yes, which was boring (nobody does that) but when we told new suppliers that we had their ears "perked up" and now we enjoy a rate little more than uk prices. The biggest problem is the earth movers who have to come to "dig out" your tank apparently this can be very dangerous more so than a full tank as there is always a residual amount at the bottom....nevertheless.....

Thanks for your prompt reply. We have considered changing suppliers in order to get a more competitive price for the gas but have always been put off by the tank & hassle of changing it. Perhaps the threat of doing so will encourage our current suppliers to reduce their price? Fingers crossed.
Regards
Anne2
ciao paula as far as i understand you dont pay anything for the tank to be installed but you do have to undertake by way of a contract to purchase a certain amount of gas each year, not sure on the year bit it maybe very 6 months. it is worth checking with your gas company. cioa marco
