I think GeorgeS was maybe trying to stimulate a discussion on the basis that, although utilities etc may be more expensive in Italia, the benefits far outweigh the extra monetary outlay.
Therefore 'cost of living' or 'cost of life' ?
Tell me if Ive got this all wrong!!
Lesley

Lesley, sorry chuck, I'm not that deep, I was bored, and, wondered if the heading would read better as "Cost of living", any way, I, personally, myself feel that by splitting the board up into many sections actually limits discussion, in the last week for instance there have already been a couple of instances of duplicated postings in a couple of areas, any way, errr, that's all except that perhaps we should consider adding another, possibly sub divided section for "Personal attacks and general slagging off, as there seems to be a pattern developing on the board, Ohhh, breathe deeply, smell the testosterone ... (That might stimulate some discussion) Ohh, apart from it being in a backwater that is...

george ... have another bottle of wine.... testerone ...or whatever is the spice of life ....when people get angry here what does it matter....you cannot punch over a virtual communication system .....cost of life..... i was just thinking of it..... if anyone raises the subject here you often get told to go home if you do not like it..... a favorite and negative arguement.....
for those of us that at the moment italy is our home also a laughable one....
cost of life is something i like the sound of.... it has a more sincere and more accurate sound than cost of living.....which to me sounds more like the projection in the newspaers of the cost of a basket of goods from the supemarket which they seem to think is how people weigh their existence.....life is more personal and goes beyond the price of potaoes each week.... so life.... i like it....maybe ronald sufers from my dreaded affliction and cannot get the english word sometimes ...but yes....life is what it is and the costs and benefits are something to be taken in the round

Hi GeorgeS :)
Looking at the time that I made my post I suspect I had entered my 'philosophical' phase of the evening by then!
(In my case it means the short space of time (after a few glasses of wine) when I can still get my fingers to spell correctly but very shortly before I go cross-eyed with the drink and flake out).
Sorry for being presumptious enough to try to interpret your intended message :o
(And thank you for being nice to me!)
And for everyone out there - if you see any of my posts from that time of night please take them with a pinch of salt.
(As well as thinking I become eloquent when I've had a drink or two I also have been known to think I am expert at singing and dancing by then - thankfully I won't be subjecting you to that on this forum!)
And, in response to GeorgeS' comment about duplication - I had noticed that happening but thought it was maybe newbies not being sure where to post so they were posting in more than place?
Also I've found that the only way I can keep up with what is going on is to click on the new posts link at the top of the page which only brings up the posts that have appeared since I last logged in.
Best wishes - keep all the posts coming - I haven't giggled as much in ages, Lesley (Not sure I should admit this GeorgeS but I'm originally from Blyth, you know..):D

Lesley, I beleive there is a phrase "as philosophical as a newt"... I LOVE BLYTH, nearly bought a house in Newbiggin ages back too. Your theory is really good, I only thought I'd thought of it meself. Actually, in my working life, there was an awful phraase "cost of life" sometimes (frequently  ) used by employers when translating the "reasonably practicable" bit of the Health and Safety at Work Act, I think it was around 90'000 pounds. But, that's another story for another place...

cost of living it is then :)
or, Cost of Living, Your Choice ??
Somehow think that Cost of Living would sound better?
