1122 Lemon drinks

My mothers family (the Italians) all used to love drinking lemon juice in the summer. This was lemon diluted in water (could be hot or cold) with salt added. The kiddies got the same mix minus the salt but with sugar added.

I must admit I never developed a taste for the salted drink but in thinking about it recently I was wondering if anyone else has encountered this drink in the wanderings across Italy?

No not the drink but i have met sicilians who eat lemons with salt on, skin as well.

Susi

I've not come across this in Italy, but strangely enough, on hot days, Rowntree's in York used to provide it for the workforce, naturally we used to sweeten it with inverted sugar mix, which had errrm unfortunate toilet related consequences if the balance was wrong. :o

Yup, have seen the same treatment given to grapefruit... Mind you, I have heard that lemons in Italy manage to be a bit sweeter than the stuff I grew up with...still don't think I would try that though.

My mother's family are from a village just south of Naples, so prime lemon growing country I gather.
