Camping on Gargano

Our favourite campsite in Puglia (or all of Italy for that matter) is San Felice, near Vieste on Gargano. When we first went there over 20 years ago it was sublime. Basic toilets and showers, a small shack that the owners lived in that also coupled as a basic shop and the most wonderful scenery. We returned each year for about 7 years, through babies who then became toddlers. It proved as ideal a location for them as it did for us when childless. However, as with most places, it became overdeveloped and we had to stop going when loud music permeated the site day and night.
We went back two years ago for our 25th wedding anniversay as we were longing to see it again (isn't that sad, camping for your 25th!). It was better managed, still developed, but much more tasteful, and no loud music. It even had a swimming pool which is quite a luxury in Italy. The scenery was as stunning as ever (it is the arch that is shown on all the publicity for Puglia). It has a sandy beach with the normal sunbeds, but also has another undeveloped cove and is surrounded by rocks that you can laze on and dive into the water (if you can manage to climb out again).
We have just bought a trullo near Ostuni and are hoping that sometimes we can use it as a base and drive up to San Felice for a week.
I have no idea if it is open in October. I have in the past found a website which was in Italian and German only (very little English spoken on Gargano) but I can't find it now. However, I'm sure some time on google will turn it up.
Good luck.

Thanks for the responses. I wonder, does anyone know of an agritourismo which accomodates campers? A small site, just space for one or two tents, would be preferable, as they( my son and his girlfriend) both work in countryside occupations in England and would like to find somewhere with natural richness as they like quiet undeveloped places. For camping they need the latter and hot water, shower and toilet as basics.
Alternatively,Anyone with a small cottage or trullo to rent near the sea?
Also, What is the weather like in Puglia in the autumn and winter. I'm also hoping to visit in October and we might co9mbine our vist, depends what comes up accomaodation camping wise- I'd do the trullo thing if they cant find anywhere good to camp, but I know they'd rather do it alone and have an adventure! Anyone with any experience of either camping places or trullo to rent by sea, please help!

Hi, we have a country house in the province of Lecce which we let to friends when we are not using it. We let the whole property to friends for £20/night. It is in a 6,000 sqm olive grove, so lovely location. If you are interested, please drop me a line at santo@apulia2005.com. Ciao.

I'm looking for a good camping in puglia for this summer (Hopefully we can go!) , can you point out a good one?
I've found this website with a good list of them: Camping Puglia | Trova i tuoi Campeggi in Puglia

Can't help you with camping sites but you've made a great choice in Gargano/Vieste for a holiday. The best seaside resort area in Puglia and one of best in Italy (in my opinion).
Hi my son and his girlfriend want to visit Puglia after hearing my stories. Please can anyone let us know of a place to stay, camping or small cottage etc. They are on a budget, but are looking for peace , beautiful countryside and beautiful sea to swim in. has to be October because of work commitments. The sites on the net they've found all look too big for their taste . basic facilities required - toilets, shower ,shop- near the sea or not too far,in an olive grove perhaps....this is for october...will there still be places open then? Any advice appreciated.
Thanks Jacqueline
have you tried www.camping.it
should give you a large choice of sites, not sure how many will still be open
in october.
