...can't you buy a beam & either:
1 - take the "core" out so it fits over the RSJ
2 - cobble it together from 3 chestnut planks
We had a similar porblem with an RSJ & just got it rendered & painted it white. It complmented the rest of the chestnut beams very well.
Ta for the tips, I think on reflection we may end up getting it rendered or just painted. These RSJ's are not that ugly compared to all the iron work we have in every room to earthquack proof the house. Funny I don't remember the geometra mentioning this!!
Hi Paul (?) im afraid i cant help you with your question, however I would recommend pretty much same advice as Kim and David above...... I wouldnt clad though, as it will always look boxed in, I would plaster/render the concrete beams to reduce their regularity (so dont be at all precious with finish!) which will give their form a semblance of individuality (ie beams are all different) and then whitewash.....they will quieten down and blend in the process, bear in mind many wooden beams are whitewashed anyway.....camourflage is a last resort! good luck whatever you decide.
