1176 EU Study Grants

I have been told on several occasions that as an EU citizen it is possible for me to get a study grant to complete a full time degree course and/or a modern language course.

I have however been unable to confirm this information. Would anyone here know if this is true or not and how one goes about securing the grant?

Hi Sano,

As an EU citizen living in the UK, I would be eligible to apply for a grant for full time study and probably get it. That is on the basis that you don't have a full time job at the same time (would be a struggle anyway...).

As a part-time student you could even apply for a grant if your salary was below, I think, £15k p.a.

However, I think I'd only be eligible because I live here on a permanent basis.

If you want to take up distance learning courses in Italy, eg, I think the whole funding situation looks differently. On the Edinburgh ICI website I noticed that they accepted applications for scholarships, receiving a grant from the Italian govt for study at state unis. However, that was in 2003/04! Not sure if they repeat their offers. Might be worthwhile asking at your local ICI.

Cheers,
Stephanie ;)

Hi Stephanie,

Thanks for this info - I will ask at the ICI.
