1275 Italy Mag calender, oh dear

The pictures in the magazine entitled 'A sense of Place' are often wonderful and I would have thought ideal for a calender. So I was pleased to see one being offered for 2006. But what's this? The pictures are of Tuscany only......Oh shame on you. :(

Dear Annie,

being in Sicily myself I am certainly no defender of Tuscany but it is simply the case that that is the place most people are interested in. However we will try and see what we can come up with for the 2007 calendar - certainly we can't have Tuscany two years in a row! ;)

Yes I too looked in the Italy Mag. at the calendar for 2006, and I also thought , why only pics. of Tuscany? Not everyone is interested in that area ( I do not mean to offend any one from there ) :o After all there are so many different regions that could have been represented, one for each month of the year. Needless to say, I will not be buying one. :(

Rather naively I assumed that a calender published by Italy mag would be representative of the country as a whole - how wrong could I be? Judging by the posts in the forum, I'm afraid that I have to disagree with Ronald when he says most people are interested in Tuscany! Emilia Romagna, Puglia, Abruzzo, Lazio and Le Marche seem to me to be the most commonly mentioned regions.
An Italian calender was an excellent idea and would have made an ideal Christmas pressie for many, but as it only features Tuscany sadly it will not be featuring on my, nor I suspect many others, shopping lists.
An opportunity missed. Hopefully this will be rectified by 2007!

It's possible to obtain a calender featuring Caravans in a state of disrepair from the eco bookshop in the UK, they also do one which features Sheds in a similar state, not quite so tasteful, but none of the featured scenes are located in Tuscany.
BTW are most people interested in Tuscany ???

That's a tricky one Will, they may not be absolutely representative of everywhere, but, I think they do in fact reside in more than one area of Great Britain. Have e mailed bookshop requesting information, will re post when it becomes available...

One of the few criticisms I have of italy magazine is the concentration on tuscany. However i apprreciate that magazines are fuinded mostly by advertising, so presume most advertisers are going to want to see lots of puff for their region, and tuscany has hitherto been the most advertised region. hopefully as people now are moving further afield the balance will shift?

Have been assured that the whole of the country was SCOURED to find both caravans and Sheds. Examples in calendar from Essex, Devon South Wales, Cumbria, West Midlands North Yorkshire Northumberland, Central and Southern Scotland and even Ireland (2 sheds apparently) locations mainly rural for the caravans, many of the sheds urban.

Sheds? A missed opportunity, obviously, to capture the countless 'urban' caravans we see so often at the side of the road here in Ireland; particularly in North Dublin. Lovely. :rolleyes:

Speaking for the missrepresented prolitareat of North Wales I see this as another instance of capitalistic political dogma. I can say with great pride that we here in North Wales are proud of our delapidated sheds. In fact we are considering exporting delapidated sheds to Tuscany and are currently developing a calender to celebrate it!

It really doesn't take a lot to upset you does it...

Tuscany is, I am afraid to tell you, the most popular region. It is not the most popular one on this forum and for me that is great because it makes the forum instantly more representative of the whole of Italy.

But on the rest of the website Tuscany hits all the top spots... sorry! It is not just a question of advertisers pushing that way (for which I am really not that sure its true) - website visitors push that way

Ronald, it is I understand possible to upset some of the people all of the time, all of the people some of the time, but never all of the people all of the time...
Anyway, Banca Delle Marche always produces a beautiful calener of this Region, and, if you ask nicely, they even let you have a couple of extra copies (free!!!) to send to your friends... of course as it is an Italian organisation, they're normally available in February. but, err..... ;)
