1335 Alfa 159

from a alffetta 1.8 gt. alfa 75. and now a 156 2.4 jtd owner.

the 159 has been delayed [outside of italy] the new boss is not happy
with the quality, or aftersales service.

and as much as i like my 156, the 159 is going to have to be a large
improvement if its going to be a success.

so the question i would ask then is.
how many people on this italian site, responded to a question on an italian
product, and if what you say was true, how many people own one of the
products produced by this company.
yes what is true is they have been making stylish cars, but the reputation
has not been anywhere good enough, nor has the aftersales.
they now have a german boss, who seems hellbent on putting things right.

to me and some other car lovers this is important, it fits in with the whole
italian mentality, but your response gives the impression that its not worth
mentioning and that there is no issue with italian cars.

hundreds of owner on each [several hundred on each] talking about the
problems and defects on their cars plus what they like about them.
there are serious problems, that cannot just be brushed under the carpet
and ignored.

I'm a big Alfa fan and have owned a 156 for the last 3 years and intend to stick with Alfa when I buy next time, either the revamped 156 or the GT.

Mine had 1 owner from new (its a 1998 S-reg) and had done just short of 19,000 miles, its in lovely condition. I drove up to Glasgow a couple of weeks ago to watch Scotland-Italy at Hampden Park and it cost me £92 in petrol (I live in Shropshire so it was about a 700 mile round trip) so its pretty thirsty but to drive and the design its great.

Alfa used to have a terrible reputation, mainly the 70s and 80s, my dad had a green Alfasud in the late 70s/early 80s and he had nothing but trouble with it, it was probably the worst car he has had!

However, touch wood, my 156 is great and has given me no trouble at all. It goes for its annual service and MOT (and passes) and I recently had to put a couple of new tyres on the front but apart from that...

A question was asked, I answered it, if YOU wish to discuss the merits of individual car marques or models, then the sited you mention are the place to do that, I actually find the subject mind numbingly boring, which is why I do not frequent those sites, I do own an old Alfa 155 which was cheap to buy is reasonably fast, comfortable and has plenty of space, but, I am not interested, and if you actually look at the replies to the post you will see that few people have even bothered to reply end of conversation... :rolleyes:

i found your response to the original poster to be somewhat rude.
if you did not care about the subject, you should have done the decent
thing and ignored it, instead you responded with a very inaccurate

dread to think that a bad experience with a car could sour the italian

I have been seduced by Alfa Romeo cars all my life. Have owned an Alfetta (1970's), an Alfa Syder Veloce 2000/Square tail (early 80's), Alfasud Ti 1500 (late 80's) and a 156/absolute top of the range/dogs bollocks (late 90's - 2001). Every last on of them caused me immense grief and lots of money- the last one, the 156, with 34.000 miles on the clock blew up on the M1 motorway and burnt away to nothing before the fire brigade got there (about ten minutes). So, what about about Alfa Romeo??? - this thread about boys and their toys has frustrated me hugely - get a life lads!!

Having said all of that I'll probably have another one before I die!!!!!!!!!!!!

hey slow down.. i'm not the bad boy here, your post proves the piont i have
tried to make since i first responded on this thread, to the statement that
ALFA have been making good cars for ages, stylish yes but the are still a
little way down on reliability.

i am finding it a little surprising that some people do not read the post
correctly, as if they did your statement about boys toys would never have
been made.
it would be like me making a statement along the lines of, people who want
to move to italy for the dolce vita lifestyle,are living in a dream world.
which is just as true as your statement, but not totally accurate and very
one dimentional.

although having read your statement again, and all the grief you have had
with your alfas, boys toys does seem to spring to mind.
