819 How do I get the electricity etc connected?

This may sound a bit dumb, but I'm going out Italy this week to complete on a house purchase, and I've no idea about how to get the electricity, water, gas etc, connected in my name.

The property is habitable and was lived in until a couple of weeks ago, so the services may still be connected in the vendor's name.

Try to visit or phone the respective offices at the same time as the previous owner to make the changeovers, failing that, change the names following the next bill, make sure you have an agreed final reading though... you will need at least a codice fiscale to register with the utility companies.

It's alsoworth noting that for the water at least you will have to pay stamp duty on the contract, damn expensive stamps. About 15 euros I think, sorry it's a long time since we did this so I'm not sure of the current value of the stamp.

Electricity is with enel, Gas is with Ital Gas, and water depends on the region...

I am sure that the estate agent will help through this....

it would be better if you could just change the name on the contract without actually opening a new one, if not you will have to pay the tax of allacciamento again...
