971 figs on the road

Sometimes I wake up because it is too hot.
When we go to the beach the sea is a wonderful shade of blue and never truly busy.If we want a coffee we can walk for one minute in either direction to a beach bar-both are very high standard and very reasonably priced.
On the way to the beach we stop to buy apricots or peaches for next to nothing
This is now my life.A trip out is like an incredible holiday-last night a visit to a local festa in the next sleepy village-it started slow but within 3 hours it was rocking!
In an effort to stop my belly taking over the world I have started running-only to be tempted by figs which are falling from trees at the side of the road/track-surely these can"t be fattening. Before anyone worries about the dangers of eating fruit which has touched the polluted road I think I am the only vehicle to have passed that way in a long time.I ran for 11 miles and only saw 2 locals sat on a bench outside an abbandoned bar -they smiled whilst informing me I am mad.
I am mad.My belly and I love it here.Magic happens.I now make much less money but I am much richer
My windows arrive tonight or maybe they won"t but I think we will be ready for the snow-then I"m going ski-ing instead of the beach-and there are no queues for the lifts
It is 40 dgrees today-in yorkshire it is raining-isn"t it all a little crazy?

I was feeling depressed after booking flights yesterday for my husband and son for a few days next week. (To measure up for windows funnily enough)

I loved your story but now feel even worse. I have to say I mumbled under my breath a couple of words (the second being off) I am soooooooooo envious am surely sitting here puse.

I love how you describe your life and hopefully in 12 months time I can say the same thing. By the way, who care's about a bit of a belly. I love my fella's. Something to cuddle up to. About figs, no idea and have three tree's full in the villa we've just bought. Perhaps somebody has some tried and tested tasty recipe's.

apples

dont know where you live but it all sounds familiar.... a word of warning about figs..... especially the overripe ones....you could be running faster to try and get home.....

anyway...good luck with the windows.... they always arrive on time....nice to hear that not everyone worries about rip offs and costs and contracts..... and essentially seems to have settled into a life which if you do forget all those things suddenley seems just about perfect....

a posting to be proud of and long may mad mad people live on

From my memories of my last ten years in Sheffield, it's generally raining somewhere in Yorkshire... Lovely tale, may your belly and you be madly happy for hundreds of years to come. Will let you know when my figs ripen ;)

To continue on the topic of figs - my friends and I had the most beautiful dessert ever in a little restaurant in our local village in Lunigiana last Sept. The figs were cooked in some kind of caramel - generally not a dessert lover, this changed my mind for all time. We have not stopped talking about it since - I'm hoping that when they are in season again, I could pop along for some more (and maybe get hold of the recipe, so that I can do the same with the figs from my two trees!!!) I'll post the recipe if I'm successful - in the meantime, it's lovely to hear there are other people who love Italian food as much as I do.....

.....apples, please stay mad. There are enough sane people. One day we wish to be as mad as you too.

......maybe without the running though(!)

JUst a quick update-the man with the windows arrived. The windows are ready to install-providing we don"t want the glass!!!The glass will be ready ,without doubt, in the 1st week September.
He then cast an expert eye over my partners floor tiling efforts and said it wasn"t bad-this is actually an improvement on the usual hushed whispers when they realise the work has been done by a woman!!
By the way the highlight of our local festa next week is boxing when the local lads get a chance to knock lumps off each other-on reflection this could explain a few things....

Talking about rip offs, costs and contracts, for nearly 3 months we have been there and got the T shirt! But reading this thread has brought back the biggest smile to our faces and our bellies just can't wait to get out there!
