1101 Was anybody in Rome between 1990 and 1992 ?

Hi everyone ,was just wondering if any of you were in Rome between october 1990 and July 1992.I was working there as a basbysitter and had lots of friends who I used to see at The Fiddlers Elbow pub and the Victoria.I have been searching for Sonia Beckford who was a great friend of mine ,and also Dorie Slater ,both of whom I sadly lost touch with.Is there anybody else out there who was in Rome during this time ? I am returning to Rome for the first time in 15 years in just over a weeks time.I can barely wait!!! :D It would be lovely to hear from anyone who I may have known ,or if not ,just to have a little reminisce about those heady days of freedom and joy in the most beautiful city in the world .I dont know if Rome has changed much since I left.Has anybody been recently and is there anything I can find out while Im there which will be helpful for anybody planning a trip in the future ?.Its lovely to be part of such a lovely community on these boards .Best wishes to all ,love Jane x x :)

Well I was (and also in Milan), but I don't remember seeing you there. Did you hide?

Hi Lotaresco ,No ,not at all !! I was very 'overt' when I was in Rome ,Im surprised you didnt hear me singing in the fiddlers elbow from Milan !!!! Did you know any English people in Rome ? I knew quite a few people who were editors and a few people who worked for FAO.Unfortunately I dont have any contact with them now ,but it would be lovely to meet them again one day because they made me feel so welcome and really helped me during my time there. In particular ,I had an american friend called Dorie Slater who worked at FAO and who lived in italy for 8 years .Do you think it would be worth putting a thread up asking if anybody knows where she is? (I dont want to hog the boards!!) Anyway ,Thanks for your post and for making me laugh out loud in the middle of the office when was having a 'discreet 'look at the boards when I should have been working !!! Only 6 more days and I return to Rome for a wonderful holiday .Take care and best wishes ,Jane x

I was busy working for a big pharmaceutical company and they didn't let me out to play. I can't remember much of the detail. No I didn't meet anyone English, all Italians and one Irish guy but I took him with me or rather he took me because he was my boss. Best memory from that time was eating in a restaurant in Milan that used to be a warehouse designed by Leonardo da Vinci at the side fo the canal that he also designed. Worst was the exchange rate - 1000 Lira to the pound, it cost a fortune to do anything. Within a couple of years the Lira had fallen to 3000 to the pound and I was rich.
