Please could anyone tell me about Italian internet ? Do they have an Italian version of broadband. I am asuming this would only be available if you lived in a large town of city. What about rural areas with a telephone?
Are the prices for the service favourable and are there many to choose from.

I noticed when I bought my Italian mobile there are only 2 or 3
networks to choose from, I got wind which my Italian friends say isn't the best for reception.

Hi Kym, internet in Italy is a bit a hit and miss, they have adsl (broadband) but the coverage is not as good as England specially in remote areas, go to http://www.tele2.it/internet/adsl/offerta.html so you can check if you are covered by adsl to do so click on the verifica ora and insert the phone number if you know it, this will tell you if your area is covered by adsl, Contract wise keep in mind that you will be signing up a 12 months minimum contract (in the majority of the cases). Some provider offer a pay as you go broadband www.alice.it (paghi solo se navighi ) option.
There many options to check out but you might want to check if you are covered first :) ,

Hope this helps,

stef

Thanks steph for your help my mum lives in lanzarote and phone calls are just out of the question most of the time we both chat for hours email and msn is our best option
at the moment.

We are in Puglia about 2kms from town and have broadband via telephone company. got 3 months free trial when we had phone connected ( which took 2 months ...so don't hold your breath !!)...actually didn't ask for broadband ..just internet !

We live in a rural location and have a good internet connection via a GPRS connection with a mobile phone. just get fixed via your local computer shop.Prices very reasonable. Vodaphone seems to be the best service overall.
