It is a EU regulation, no more than 10,000 in cash or they can seize it unless you have some very good explanation. Here you have the information:

Did they rescue the dog from the Pound !

just to clarify, you can move up to 10,000 euros without declaring it (per person, I think). Anything over 10,000 euros and you have to declare it. If you don't declare it and they catch you, then they can seize it.

I'm wondering if this dog can sniff out every currency - or just Euros? Some countries use a much more plastic like 'paper', and quite different inks - and I'd punt on them being odorless. (Mainly because I'm thinking of where they are printed....)
Is there any restricton on the number of Sterling notes you can take out of Britain?

My previous answer was incorrect - the 10.000 Euro limit is for transporting money to a non-EU country - there is no limit on moving money within the EU
According to the UK HM Revenue & Customs website
“From 15 June 2007, if you are travelling to or from a country outside the European Union (EU), you will need to declare any sums of cash of 10,000 Euro or more (or the equivalent in another currency) to HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC).
You do not need to declare cash if you are travelling to or from another EU country.”

Thanks for that alan, but you are quoting from a UK (rather than an EU) source, and just possibly the caveat in the link posted by Gala is relevant:
"Inside the European Union country will keep the right to set independently on cash import and export."
I don't know - I'm not suggesting that your interpretation is incorrect!

If they are not odorless my wife suggests I put notes in my socks as a dog which is suposed to have a nose 1000 times more sensitive than us would roll over with its legs in the air. :reallyembarrassed:

Sorry - I was answering your question

I believe you can legally take 10.000 Euros in cash out of the UK
