Yet another incentive from those great people at Osteria del Lago at San Ruffino. They have opened a small English library, novels non fiction and some reference books. The idea is that the novels can be swapped or that you can add to their numbers

I feel this might be a question that comes under Caroles expertise, but just assuming I am a pensioner soon, what would be the advantages , disadavantages of having it paid here or in the UK?. I am being given the option, interesting that the post

One of the main topics at the G8 summit held in L'Aquila this week will be the environment and climate change and a drive to reduce carbon emissions. Mr B might be well advised to look closer to home on this subject.

You dont say how old you are and this can have a significant impact if you are eligable to transfer benefits from the (I am assuming) UK.Otherwise do a search on this forum, much has been written on the subject in the past.

Would it be possible to have it paid into a UK bank account and then transfer it when the rates are good into your Italian account?....say 3/4 times a year. Works well for me, and I can recommend Currencies Direct for the xfer.

Steve is correct, public sector government pensions taxed in the UK despite residency in Italy. A good commercialista saves worry and doubt I can recommend one in Marche if anyone is interested.

My neighbour showed me where to pick wild chicory, I cannot remember the dialect word, but it was absolutley delicious and so digestable....miles better than spinch....but not telling where it is!, and the fungi pickers have been down our lane again, but a bit hesitant to try the mushrooms.

The rate is the current rate, and no charges are made, but it is best to tell your bank it is your UK pension being received to avoid confusion.

Why so gloomy?, we are only a few miles from you. There is a new factory going up near our village that will employ more local people, we already have one that our neighbours son works for. The other son is an accountant and works close by. Young Italian friends work locally (I admit after a long job search). Interesting re our neighbouring farmers, their sons are now retiring from jobs abroad and returning home, and are working on the land, how lucrative this will be remains to be seen, but judging from the the number of contract tractors working on the land, they seem to have their act together. Re the old abandoned houses, always sad, estate agent friends advise there is a trend now for Italians to return to the countryside....abet with jobs in neighbouring cities but what they perceive as a better lifestyle for their family. Marche is still thriving !.
