I am hoping that there is someone out there who can help me! We need to put a barrier across our road and are looking for a farm type gate - the sort that you see everywhere in the UK - in either wood or metal.

Well thank you everyone, that was most enlightening! It was also interesting to see again all the different variations in spelling that people use. That was definitely how they spelled it in the Marche!
I was shopping in my local branch of Conad when in the vegetable section I saw what looked like bulbs, small and with a papery covering with a small bulb like sprout of green at the top.
When I first moved permanently to Italy one of the few things I missed was Marks and Spencers. It was still there of course, but would not deliver to Italy.
We have been watching Penny's trials and tribulations about getting full unlimited SSN cover in the Marche with trepidation!
We live here in Italy permanently so we have a Telepass because we never have any cash on us!
For the last two years I have been plagued by a flying beetle, small, black with grey dots on it, who gets into the rose buds and eats all of them away. I have tried spraying soapy water on them, but they just fly away and come back later.
My three grndchildren are arriving tomorrow - they are 6, 4 and 3. Last time they stayed we went to castles in La Rancia and Pallotta and the Dinosaur Park and Frassassi caves.

Thanks Andiamo, Badger and Alan - as always, the "old faithful" for answering my questions! Yes, I think coming off the motorway and finding a supermarket is the way to go both in Italy and in France. Thank you for the link Andiamo about Carrefour. I shall study that! Is there a link showing petrol stations for something more Italian like Auchan? Or has anybody got another supermarket they can suggest? It is difficult to just take off from a junction if you don't know where you are going! At least it is when I am driving! Glad to hear that the Basel route is working well Alan! I agree with you about American tourists. They just have no idea about British grit in the face of danger! It certainly isn't going to put us off!
Popped into Ikea two days ago, and looked at Carrefour while we were there. Could not believe the cheapness of the fuel! Unfortunately had an almost full tank! However, that will definitely be the place to fill up as we go past. Do you know if they are open at night? We were thinking of leaving in the wee small hours of the morning.
I thought it might be! That is really great. We can manage that, and now that is one less thing to worry about!
Thanks for that Bunterboy. Yes our vet in Passo San Ginesio seems to charge 25 Euros for almost everything, so I am sure it will be the same! We will do that with our dog, and then drive to Calais for the ferry. However, as you have obviously done this, what do you have to do when you come back from the UK? Did you have to go through the whole process again with a UK vet, or does it carry over? We are thinking of staying in the UK for at least a month??
I flew back to Italy from the UK a few weeks ago and although I was well sorted with everything in my hand luggage or wearing on my body, pockets etc, there was a very smart Italian lady who was distraught because she had a designer handbag as her hand luggage and had bought a bottle of whisky to take home to her husband and the ryanair person was giving her grief and telling her that if she could not get the bottle in her handbag it would be 35 Euros. I saved the day by lending her my spare Marks and Spencer cloth carrier bag which happily took handbag and bottle inside! I got a full blown glare from ryanair, but the lady was very grateful! She was watched all the time that she was on the plane to make sure she did not take everything out of the bag and was only able to give it back to me when we had gone past passport control at Ancona! You would think they got a bonus payment for every excess charge they extracted out of people!
We have a lot of this available in December only in San Benedetto, Southern Marche. Here it is called Fristingo. It is just like cold Christmas pudding, but lovely! Very expensive though!!
I joined this on the 5 Euros a month through paypal and it all worked really well. We could not be more pleased with it!
Hey Badger, you are really great! i have done it and have just enjoyed watching gavin and Stacey, the new series, episode 1! I never knew I could have so much enjoyment from an internet connection! You have made my year! thank you!
I am connected to the portal, but when I went on the BBC site it said I couldn't see anything because I live in Italy!!
