I am hoping that there is someone out there who can help me! We need to put a barrier across our road and are looking for a farm type gate - the sort that you see everywhere in the UK - in either wood or metal.

Well thank you everyone, that was most enlightening! It was also interesting to see again all the different variations in spelling that people use. That was definitely how they spelled it in the Marche!
I was shopping in my local branch of Conad when in the vegetable section I saw what looked like bulbs, small and with a papery covering with a small bulb like sprout of green at the top.
When I first moved permanently to Italy one of the few things I missed was Marks and Spencers. It was still there of course, but would not deliver to Italy.
We have been watching Penny's trials and tribulations about getting full unlimited SSN cover in the Marche with trepidation!
We live here in Italy permanently so we have a Telepass because we never have any cash on us!
For the last two years I have been plagued by a flying beetle, small, black with grey dots on it, who gets into the rose buds and eats all of them away. I have tried spraying soapy water on them, but they just fly away and come back later.
My three grndchildren are arriving tomorrow - they are 6, 4 and 3. Last time they stayed we went to castles in La Rancia and Pallotta and the Dinosaur Park and Frassassi caves.

Yes, it would still be £5. I ordered several heavy items and they still only charged me £5. PS I dont think they send out sofas by post, but I did get jeans!
Please do quote the San Ginesio office as they have tried hard to be helpful all the way through, as is our comune. I think it helps that there have always been a lot of Brits in San Ginesio, but even so, if he understood the Regione Marche letter, then why didn't your office go along with it!! I wait to hear with interest how you get on!
I have found that the best way is to send a text to someone. It uses a tiny bit of credit, but not as much as a phone call, but it seems to be all the activity they need!
Thank you alan h you are a treasure! You have made my OH's day!
That suggestion to bypass Basel sounds like a great idea. We too have queued for hours to get into Switzerland. I know it sounds a silly question, but has anyone got the signs that we would need to follow to go the other way, i.e. out of Switzerland?
Thank you both. I will try that next year and see if I manage to get any whole, uneaten roses this time!
We have used Ibis and Novotel with our dog when we were travelling long distance, and they are always happy to accept dogs. Another good chain to look at is Best Western. We have used many of these hotels all across Italy, and all of them have accepted our dog in our room, no charge! Best of luck!
Yes I can confirm that. Up in the expensive seats you will get people in full eveing dress, but in the "middle" section most men wore a light coloured jacket and trousers, and women wore a dress or skirt and top. Where we live, many children are taken to performances as young as six or seven. Italian children ceratinly seem to have a lot of stamina because I struggled to stay awake when I went - not because of the performance, but because it was well past my bedtime!!
We are exactly the same. We live permanently in Italy, have an Italian mortgage and a UK pension paid in Sterling and then converted to Euros. This is great news for us, but we are not spending the extra as you never know what will happen next month!!
Big thank you to everyone for all the good information. We have had a great week and have tried out lots of suggestions. The rest we are saving until they come back again for 2 weeks in August! We are now off for a stonking Sunday lunch with plenty of pasta at our local restaurant, and then they fly back tomorrow.
