I am hoping that there is someone out there who can help me! We need to put a barrier across our road and are looking for a farm type gate - the sort that you see everywhere in the UK - in either wood or metal.

Well thank you everyone, that was most enlightening! It was also interesting to see again all the different variations in spelling that people use. That was definitely how they spelled it in the Marche!
I was shopping in my local branch of Conad when in the vegetable section I saw what looked like bulbs, small and with a papery covering with a small bulb like sprout of green at the top.
When I first moved permanently to Italy one of the few things I missed was Marks and Spencers. It was still there of course, but would not deliver to Italy.
We have been watching Penny's trials and tribulations about getting full unlimited SSN cover in the Marche with trepidation!
We live here in Italy permanently so we have a Telepass because we never have any cash on us!
For the last two years I have been plagued by a flying beetle, small, black with grey dots on it, who gets into the rose buds and eats all of them away. I have tried spraying soapy water on them, but they just fly away and come back later.
My three grndchildren are arriving tomorrow - they are 6, 4 and 3. Last time they stayed we went to castles in La Rancia and Pallotta and the Dinosaur Park and Frassassi caves.

Hi, we have had insurance from Direct Line here in Italy, and they are far cheaper than Italsure, and we have found them to be very good. You can get a quote online, and then get it online too.
Has anyone been here for the day? Looking at the prices page it seems to only quote staying in a cabin for a few days??? Am I being thick? Don't answer that!
Thanks to both of you. Yes I have heard of the water park at Cingoli but know nothing about it. It is worth trying out. I don't think the big one will be quite our thing yet! It is scary enough trying to hold three wriggly children who all think they can swim, but who all make a good attempt at drowning themselves and me!!
Thanks Moxie. We are planning on going to the beach on Tuesday and Wednesday, but we think we may have to be back here when the storms come! Yes, they enjoy Lake Fiastra and it is good when it is too hot!
I bought this book from Amazon and when it arrived my husband took it first and read it avidly. He really enjoyed it, but he is a bit more of an anorak with books than I am. However, I read it after him, and I found it really readable, fascinating and an excellent book. It is particularly good because the author has used sources such as people's letters and diaries which make it very real from the perspective of all sides. I would say though that a more comprehensive map helped me to be certain what was happening and where! It has made me much more aware of why our neighbours told us various tales of life during the War, and how it affected ordinary people here in the Marche.
Hi, we are resident and we are pensioners, and have a pension from the UK which is taxed in the UK and then transferred to our Italian bank account. My husband is over 60 and neither of us have ever had to pay for a checkup or a visit to the doctor. The only thing that we have had to pay for is a scan or blood test or visit to a specialist etc but it is not excessive. We have never been asked how much our income is since we became resident.
