Two nights ago a gecko appeared in my lounge. It stayed high up on the wall and I couldn't reach it even if I were brave enough to handle it. Yes, I know they are quite sweet, eat mosquitoes, etc and it only scares me when it moves!
Hope you are all having a great ferragosto. What's everybody doing? I'm having a quiet day at home with my dog.
I live in a city centre, second floor apartment so I don't get much bother from creepy-crawlies, which is just as well, as I'm a city lady who is terrified of them.
I thought it would be fun to find out what everyone is reading at the moment. I'm reading "Julie and Julia" in English and a bio of Rita Levi Montalcini in Italian.
Are people interested in the UK election where you are? Here everyone is fascinated by "Bigotgate"!
Is anyone else addicted to those pocket chocolate espresso things? Just wondering....
Can anyone else see a beautiful new moon out there? Made a wish?
Nothing but bills coming through the letterbox down here in Sicily. How about where you are?

Apricots are high in pectin so the jam should set just fine without jam sugar. I do add a bit of lemon juice, though. Also, if you put thye kernels in it adds to the pectin content - you can put them in a muslin bag.
Can't help but wanted to say welcome to the forum. It looks like your sister will be able to find help here. Best wishes to both of you. Pat
Thanks, Moruzzo. I hope it's not one of those! Thanks, Angie and Robert. So far. I've not had a plague of hornets. Maralyn, Penny and Joy, those green things sound horrible! Once or twice I've found a locust in the flat but that was not as scary as a crawly thing! Will keep you all updated.
It's true Italian banks charge for everything. I'd say you could probably manaqge without one for a while but in the end, you will need one. It's easier to open a bank account here if you know someone who will introduce you - well, quicker, anyway.
I think the lady must be extra-sensitive and I'm with bunterboy on the g&t idea!
I can't help with your walls query as I don't have a practical bone in my body but I wanted to say "Welcome" to the community. I'm sure you'll find lots of help here and make a lot of friends. Pat
Hi, Christine. I don't know about the TV but your computer should work fine. I brought several of those continental adaptor things with me for electrical appliances such as my hand blender, food mixer, etc as I am attached to them! I also brought an electric kettle with me as they are expensive here. Then I got an electrician to change the plugs on the appliances I use most often. Everything will work OK on the adaptors but it does mean you use more electricity. In Italy you have to get used to not having everything on at once. Pat
I, too, decided it would not have been worth the extra shipping cost. But had my machine been new, I might have thought twice about it! I got a machine at a reasonable price from a local supplier five years ago and have had no problems. They installed for free.
Hi, elliven. My rhino-scorpion hasn't come out to play since Tuesday morning! Once a private student of mine arrived and told me there was a "scorpione" on the stairs. I was terrified but went to have a look as I'm less terrified of scorpions than spiders. And there was a little "geco" lizard! I didn't know at the time that "scorpione" is the dialect word for these! This morning Rosa, my Albanian cleaning lady and friend, came and attacked every corner viciously with a broom. Nothing came out. But I think these rhino-scorpion-cockroach-mice creatures are crafty! Will keep you all posted. Pat
Hi, Ram. I don't think it's a gecco but a rhinoceros sounds a possibility! Now you've got me thinking about that Ionesco play.... Pat
