Andrea Bocelli received a master’s degree in vocal performance from the Conservatory of Music “Giacomo Puccini” in La Spezia, Italy, last Tuesday.
Bocelli presented a 70-page dissertation, titled "The Value and Meaning of Opera Singing at the Beginning of the Third Millennium". It includes contributions from Placido Domingo.
For the practice exam, Bocelli performed three songs from Puccini's opera “Manon Lescaut”.
Not surprisingly, he graduated with honors (110/110 e lode, the top grade in the Italian university system).
"This is one of the greatest satisfactions of my life," Bocelli said after receiving his degree.
The 55-year-old tenor from Tuscany has a law degree from the University of Pisa. He studied piano at the Conservatory of Music in Lucca at a young age, but never completed his studies there. He later got a music diploma from the Conservatory Luigi Cherubini in Florence.
On the same day he graduated, Bocelli released a CD/DVD, "Love in Portofino". The renowned performer has sold 80 million albums internationally.
