A cold wave had northern Italy firmly in its grip in the first few days of 2010.
But for skiers hitting the slopes in the pretty resort of Courmayeur, in the Aosta valley, that meant plenty of early morning powder, fairy-tale offpistes and jaw-dropping views across the Graie Alps.
