An opportunist thief who stole a handbag from a parked car in Florence on Tuesday fled on a bicycle as he was spotted and pursued by the car's owner and her husband. Abandoning the bicycle, the thief ran into a building to hide from the furious couple and the building turned out to be.... a police station!
The thief, a Romanian, had, in his hurry, mistaken the entrance for that of a busy post office where he thought he would be inconspicuous in the crowd The couple caught up with him and explained the situation to the police, who immediately arrested him.
