Sicilian designer Salvatore Piccione is the winner of the fashion talent-scouting competition “Who Is On Next?”, co-sponsored by Vogue Italia and Rome’s haute couture show AltaRoma.
The prestigious prize is awarded annually to up-and-coming international talents and has contributed to launching a number of Italian designers.
Piccione’s winning collection, presented during Rome Fashion Week (AltaRoma), featured clothes embroidered with flowers in a colorful palette. He has described his style as “dynamic, colorful and feminine.”
"It was a difficult decision, as the quality of competitors has increased," Vogue Italia editor-in-chief Franca Sozzani said Monday before announcing the winner. The jury included Condé Nast fashion journalist Suzy Menkes, the Telegraph magazine fashion director Daniela Agnelli, and Beppe Angiolini, president of the Italian chamber of fashion buyers.
Piccione launched his label Piccione.Piccione in Milan in 2012. He also works for London-based brand Hobbs. He has previously worked with Mary Katrantzou for Swarovski, for Topshop, Longchamp, and has freelanced for French brand Céline.
