(ANSA) - A small town in Puglia has produced and eaten the world's biggest flat-bread 'focaccia' pizza in its central square. The tomato-topped focaccia measured 23.7 metres by 12.5 metres and covered a total area of 297 square metres. This was enough to ensure a place for the town of Mottola in the Guinness book of records.
The monster pizza, which took two days to make, was cooked in an ad hoc oven set up in Mottola's main square, using 32,000 tons of wood and the same amount of coal.
On Saturday night it was eaten by about 40,000 people - tourists and locals - who turned out to watch the climax of the record-breaking event.
