Hotels in Rome are nearly sold out for the weekend of April 27, when canonization ceremonies for Popes John Paul II and John XXIII will be held.
Italy’s ANSA news agency reports that among the more than 3,000 lodging facilities in the city, only 500 have rooms remaining for that weekend. "We are expecting to see them all sold out," said the head of Rome's hotel association Federalberghi Roma.
The event is expected to attract some two million pilgrims and tourists to the Italian capital.
Pope Francis announced last July that he would canonize the two popes, considered two of his most influential predecessors.
